Up until now, I would have preordered the next version of OOTP the same day the newest one was released. Unfortunatly, next year may be the first time I don't buy the game at all.
I can overlook bugs, AI deficiencies and overall release pains because of the confidence I have in Markus on making things right. And for the most part I've never had any reason to change my mind on that, even now. The actual atmosphere of the game itself seems to be changing to me. This version feels more like The Sims then a simulation. Being forced into a GM/Manager role is not something I want in a baseball world simulation. Being able to have mulitple human managers in a baseball world as indepth as OOTP is what has kept me here since OOTP2. Having to select a manager persona to just simulate the game seems to be the breaking factor. To me this is the worst thing that could have happend because it forces you into a solo game. Sure you can add more managers but the game treats the unselected ones as if they don't exist. Of course the dead horse is screaming for me to stop the beatings so I'll leave it at that. Back to my hotseat 6.5 league. Last edited by blynch10; 06-27-2006 at 08:45 AM. |

I'm even more cynical though, and put "Doubtful". I didn't preorder this one because I wasn't sure if it'd be all that playable. And despite some cool features... it's really not. I've stopped playing my solo league entirely as a result of the re-signing problems I've had issues with that no one else seems to, so I don't expect it to be addressed with all the other issues... but ya. It just seems that for spending the developing time of two usual releases on this, it should have been a major step forward, rewrite or not, but it isn't. For ever cool new feature it seems like at least one basic key one from a former version is missing. From V6.5, I doubt it's a step forward at all, perhaps even a regression. Yes, the scouting is cool. It's nice that now we have to scout players in the draft... but the feature which was previously much more useless now has a very good use in high school/college stats, and they're gone. All the splits given are nice, but it's more important how a batter did last season than how they're doing in daytime games in August (I know this'll be addressed, but still, the game was released without this basic feature.), and it's cool that you can put all sorts of incentives in contracts and change dollar value by year, but useless when you can't even re-sign people. Overall it just seems for everything I say "Hey, that's kinda cool..." I find at least one thing that I find extremely irritating. And I think for Markus to take these things out of the game without at least checking with the community to see how important the features were is a bad sign, and I agree... I'm just not to happy with the direction I see the game going. |

I'm with SI and Markus. For the amount of quality time (as defined by me, not my girlfriend) and fun I have had with this, and previous OOTP versions, I find the $35 U.S. Asking price to be a steal!
Its worth way more than taking my girlfriend to a so-so movie, buying a drink each and popcorn, all the while spending roughly the same amount of money. Throw in dinner and you can buy another two licenses of OOTP. Just a little more perspective.

I didnt vote since a yes seem to a pat on the back to the latest version..
and a no seem to be a kick in the butt (for all the wrong reasons) I would order....but that doesnt mean i would play it. (Im still buying new versions of Baseball Mogul, but havent played any new version more then once or twice since OOTP4!!!!) One of the advantages of disposable income.

You are still forced into a single persona. So I can simulate games under commisioner mode. Still doesn't help me. And how many gripes are on the board because of how the game handles teams when you are just acting as? Quote:

If this was just Markus making the game, I would be willing to preorder it right now if need be. but with SI involved? I guess I will sit back and see how this game is dealt with. if they continue to work on patching it and making it fulfill it's potential then I would be alot more likely to purchase the next game. I just hope the beta testing isn't as rushed as last time

If someone can give me specific directions on how I can accomplish the same style of game play that I've used for 6 years until now I'd appreciate it. The TT# that was assigned this request can be deleted. Try this: Create a manager for a team. Easy enough. Set the game to stop autosim for everything. Then create a manager for a second team and maybe for a third if you feel like it. Now set those managers to stop autosim for everything. Even if it's a dtd for 1 day. Now simulate a few months under one of those managers. How many times are you notified for autosim stop options for the unselected teams. Last edited by blynch10; 06-27-2006 at 09:36 AM. |

I'd buy OOTPBB 2007, 2008, 2009, .... because i love the game, and i think it's the best baseball simulation game out there. Obviusly the current version needs some fixes and improvements, mainly in the AI, but it's still the best game.

Well, since I haven't bought 2006 then the logical answer would be no, but it's just not that easy. I have owned every version since OOTP 99 and I want to continue supporting this series. That being said, I played out the demo and have no intentions of buying now. If the demo policy changes and a patch or 2 down the line I see improvements then I'll buy 2006. If I buy 2006 then I think the purchase of 2007 is a given. If the demo policy does not change then I will not buy 2006, but will give the 2007 demo a chance. However, I will wait and not download the demo until a month or so after it comes out since there will always be bugs to stomp first and I wouldn't want to waste my demo time on a game that still needs work.

i think polls are the best way to let markus know how the community feels about the direction of the game. i don't think anyone could ever accuse markus of not giving 100% to patching any edition he has put out. the game will be patched but more importantly what a significant number of players are saying is that they are not convinced that the game is headed in the right direction. i am one of those but there are some signs that encourage me.
i looked over the fixes to be included in the next patch and i did not notice any that seemed to deal with the baseball universe but rather more the scaled down major league system of 6.5. i could be wrong on this but that is the impression i got. i posted a while back and asked markus to give the community a sense of where the game was headed. he has never done that and in retrospect i can see why. if markus states the course of the game about half of the community will drift away and start looking for another game. it is going to be a case of patching the game and as time goes by we will see for ourselves the direction of the game. in the meantime the more polls there are concerning aspects of the game it helps markus gauge what the gamers feel and want and there is no way he is going to discount the results of those polls. it seems from what i can gauge from the polls i have seen that a game that is basically an improved 6.5 with options to create a baseball universe would be the way that might please most of the gamers. since i play baseball sims (online and solo) 5-6 hours a day i have had the opportunity over the last month to really get into ootp2006, puresim, bm and 6.5. i gave up very quickly on ootp2006 and like many am waiting for the patches to get back into the game. i spent a great deal of time with puresim and found it improved but still lacking many of the important features of ootp. bm is just too easy too beat but also improved. the game that i play and in my opinion is much superior to the others is 6.5. to sum up- post the need for fixes in the tech section. post all kinds of polls in this section because that is where markus will see what direction the gamers want to go. |

For instance there's more than a few people who used to post here regularly before the latest version was released and now post infrequently. Why? They A) might be so enraptured that they can't stop playing. Or B) they might be so pissed about the game that they've sworn it off entirely and are gone for good. Or C) they may've just been antsy for it to be released and hoped to find out more info prior to release and now that they have it feel less need to come by here. Finally, there's D) and that they're turned off by all the fighting between whiners and fanboys and so don't bother, regardless of their own feelings about the game. Internet polls are not useless but I'd be shocked if too much stock was placed in them since they don't depict a representative sample of the population they're interested in. |

I'm still tinkering with ootp2006. My hope was that I could use it to recreate my Metro Leagues. So far, I've logged a lot of time with 2006 and have learned that the game is basically to unstable in various areas right now. Actually, I like the direction the game is headed, but the current version needs to be shored up before I'd use it to get into a serious universe. Will I purchase 2007? Well, that depends on what happens with the current version moving forward.
So, I'm now back to playing ootp6.12 as my Metro Leagues workhorse. Also, logging some time with Puresim and still tinkering with ootp2006. But, I must admit I prefere 6.12 over both right now. In fact, I've learned some things through puresim and ootp2006 that I've applied to 6.12 for an even better game experience. I'm going to take a wait and see attitude with ootp2006. I don't think I'd buy 2007 unless they return some of the huge missing features, like a way to get a response to a player you want to trade without having to go through all 80 billion permutations, to name just one. The missing features are - to me - a much bigger concern that temporary playability issues.
