Legendary OOTP League Has Opening!!!
One of the last remaining original owners in the CDL is stepping down after 1983, our 15th!!!!! Season. While we are saddened by the fact this owner is leaving, this is an incredibly rare opportunity for you to join the CDL. This is the first time in almost a year that we have advertised any openings on the OOTP message boards as we have a very low turnover rate.
For those of you who have not heard of the CDL, let me tell you about the league. The CDL was founded in July of 2001 using the players from the 1969 season. We sim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with 15 days per sim. The CDL does use financials and has a salary cap. Also, there are plenty of features to the league, besides a long history and an impeccable record of on time sims and owner participation. Some of the features include the CDL News, which boasts many articles written by the owners of the CDL, amateur draft pools that are edited, which is very important for historical leagues that strive for historical accuracy, and one of the best groups of owners you could ever meet. (I’ve been playing in online leagues for six years and have never met a better group of owners in any league.) For those of you interested in statistics and history, I’ve listed some of accomplishments of some of the CDLs biggest stars, past and present. Harmon Killebrew is the current CDL leader in career homeruns with 709, though Reggie Jackson is trying to catch him and currently has 591 at age 37. While Hammerin’ Hank Aaron never did become the All-time Home Run leader in the CDL, due to Killebrew’s prodigious slugging, he did manage to become the All-Time RBI leader with 2162 and Runs Scored leader with 2130 and is second in career hits only to Roberto Clemente. For those of you who think history never takes any twists or turns in the CDL, Ed Kranepool is making a valiant effort to reach 3,000 hits and currently has 2,922 hits for his career. For pitchers, the current All-Time Wins leader is Claude Osteen with 343. (Personally, I still hate Claude Osteen for beating Jim Palmer three times in the 1972 World Series, singlehandedly giving the title to the Twins over the Astros, but perhaps our current Twins owner would like to reminisce about Osteen in a positive light.) Darold Knowles has been the premier closer in CDL history racking up 477 saves in his career. And no discussion of the CDL is complete without mentioning career ERA leader and soon to be All-Time Wins leader Steve Busby. Busby has been the most dominating pitcher in CDL history and has 272 wins at the age of 33. (The CDL is also the proud sponsor of Steve Busby over at baseball-reference.com) I guess my mentioning statistics of some of the CDL greats led to reminiscing of my own as well. Anyway, now that you have checked out the website and have seen for yourself what the CDL offers and heard one man’s testimonial to the league, you want to know what do you have to do to join? Below is a list of questions that you can answer and send to cdlrosters@cdl.ootp-leagues.com. Name Age E-Mail Address AIM and/or ICQ Other OOTP and/or Baseball Sim Experience Why do you want to join the CDL What will you bring to the CDL Thoughts on writing articles for the league And any additional info you would like to share Both Matt and myself are more than willing to answer any questions that anyone may have. So, if you want to relive the 1980s with the CDL, this might be your only chance to join. So, come on over and check us out Last edited by UKSubs; 01-25-2003 at 01:09 PM. |

Unfortunately, Brian forgot to mention The Quiz and his 'stache, which together have formed the dominant personality in the CDL since being snubbed as the 1979 Rookie of the Year. Brian's bias is in his own self-interest, as Shane Rawley of Brian's Astos, took home the '79 award by virtue of playing in the Astrodome and the inherent bias against relief pitchers that is so prevalent. The ruckus that The Quiz and his 'stache have brought to the CDL is featured at The Quiz' home page.

I would just like the record to show that the Quiz only struck out 11 men in 69.2 innings that season, whereas Shane Rawley went 14-12 and struck out 133 batters in 231 innings. And that does not even factor in Game 7 of the 1979 NLCS.
Though I will admit, that the Quiz does write the best articles in the CDL. |

The record also shows that the Quiz allowed 3 earned runs in those 69.2 innings, fininshing the season with 30 saves.
And he only hte closer for the last 2/3s of the season when Rollie Fingers was forced into the starting rotation. And don't forget Finger's role in the tragic 9th inning of the 1979 NLCS Game 7.

It should also be mentioned, that Matt and Brian run the best and steadiest league that I have ever been involved in.
It is in their honor that The Quiz twirls his 'stache, for allowing him the outlet for his twisted musings...

It would be unfair of Matt and myself not to recoginize our NL President Sam Stauder for all of his contributions in making the CDL the great league that it is, especially in the tremendous amount of webwork he has done for us. I even say nice things about him, despite his insistance that Quiz was the better ROY Candidate than Shane Rawley in 1979.

Without Baseballreference.com, it would be very difficult to properly edit the rookie pool to my exacting specifications every season. I felt that donating to Sean was the least I could do. And Busby is by far the most appropriate player for us to sponsor.

Unfortunately, shortly after creating our fancy application, my server has decided to go down for 12+ hours now.
So back to the old tried and true methods.... If you would like to be a part of the CDL, please send an e-mail to cdlrosters@cdl.ootp-leagues.com with the following information: Name Age AIM and/or ICQ Other OOTP and/or Baseball Sim Experience Why do you want to join the CDL What will you bring to the CDL Thoughts on writing articles for the league And any additional info you would like to share

Just so no one thinks that Sam is crazy, I edited the original post to put the questionaire back in there. Also, I think everyone should know that we won't be selecting an owner until Wednesday, which should coincide with the 15th CDL World Series, so there is still plenty of time to submit an application to join this legendary league.

One thing I just wanted to add...We try to maintain historical accuracy in the CDL however we have just realigned the league this season to a 6 divisional alignment in hopes of created more excitement during the stretch run. The wild card has been added and has increased the overall interest since more teams are always in contention!
Not only that but we have a new column written by the Annonymous Trade Reviewer which has caused quite a stir! If you don't like constructive and sometimes brash criticizm of your trades, I would recommend you move on and look for a different league!! ![]() Anyway, feel free to contact us with the info we requested! We are still collecting applications and openings will not be offered to who filled out their application first. I GUARANTEE you will not be disappointed in joining! |

The CDL is BY FAR the best league I'm in other than the NAHHBL (ok, a bit bias there). You'll find the duo-commish system to be VERY good about responding and keeping the league fair and fresh, and I simply can't remember the last sim which was delayed. The owners are some of the best on the net, with the average age being well above 20 (I think the brothers Groening insure that by themselves
) and the competition is great. The only bad thing about the league is that stupid 'stached fool in Puttsburg pretending to be all that. Oh and GO CUBS! |

I just want everyone to know we are still taking applications and that this is your best opportunity to get a team in the CDL either now, or in the future when we have one of our rare openings. (I would say we average one new owner per season.)

Well, I just wanted those who were sending applications to the CDL to know what kind of wait to expect for future teams. I know when I look to join new leagues, I like to know what the owner turnover is and how often new teams are available.
