I agree that Winky has no reason to think he was ripped off by the decision. I actually had Taylor winning one more round than Wright but I have no problem with a draw. I'd watch this one again if they had a rematch.
One thing that bothers me a bit about all pro boxing judges. Instead of trying to force the issue and pick a winner of each round, when the round really seems even, why not score it that way, 10-10? |

As a rank amateur score keeper, I fall prey to indecisiveness all the time and score a lot of draws. - Thunder even chided me about it at the fights in February

But I don't believe mathmatically that scoring more individual rounds as draws makes it any more likely the judges' card will end up in a draw. In fact it could make it less likely since most round are 10-9 and virtaully all bouts currently are contested with even numbered rounds, 8, 10 and 12.

I had it 7-4-1 in favor of Taylor last night, I thought the 7th was close enough to be an even round.

I watched the fight on tape this morning. (By the way, Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there, especially mine!) This was the first time in memory that I agreed round for round with Harold Lederman! I scored it 114-114.
On a more somber note, I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" this weekend and can't seem to take anything else too seriously today. Buddy |

I'm not saying judges should arbitrarily give an even round to prevent the fight from being a draw on his or her card, but I feel that sometimes rounds are just too close to call one way or another and yet the judges seem to ALWAYS give it to one fighter or another. I can't remember the last time I heard a ring announcer at fight's end announce: "Judge (insert your favorite judge's name) scored the fight 6-5 with one round even." I believe it should happen more often. |

It's nice to see a champion like Jermain Taylor in the sport these days. He's not a bitter, complaining, don't give the other guy any credit - type of fighter. His conditioning really paid off in this fight, his best defense being his offense.
He should stay with Emanuel Steward so he can learn the tricks of the trade and develop his technical skills. He's only 25, but on the other hand, learning and developing your skills while defending a title is a tough assignment. I wouldn't match him with any big punchers, yet. I'd wait until he develops a little bit more. On the other hand, with HBO's money behind him, they're not going to pay him to knock out a bunch of stiffs, either. It should be an interesting ride.

Got around to watching the fight today and it was a entertaining fight but it did slow down in the last rounds. I don't have much of a problem with the draw it was a damn close fight and could have gone either way.
