![]() You know, I think the worst thing about Neifi Perez isn't Neifi Perez. It's how Baker insists on trotting him out there time after time. Perez is the typical good glove/no hit utility IF. But Baker continually runs him out there as if he's a starter. Granted, Lee's injury has increased Neifi's playing time, which isn't Baker's fault. But Baker still uses him to much, IMO. If Neifi was used as he should be used, I would dislike him a lot less.

I hate him
And Jose macias And Fredy bynum The minor leagues are littered with plently of no-hit good glove middle IFs. why do we pay neifi perez to do it, when we can easily get a 23-24 year old organizational guy like...i dunno theriot or patterson 2.0 to do basically the same thing? This "veteran" presence idea is pure bull**** anyway. Why pay 1 mil + for something we can get done with the league minimum? Its stupid. |

And there are probably at least a dozen guys in the majors right now that are just like him. It's really hard for me to get that fired up over it.
Patterson v2 might be good at some point, but I don't believe he's ready yet. As far as Theriot, I don't see how he's an improvement, except for his salary. Neifi is a career .270 and Theriot has not shown that he can hit anywhere close to that. It CAN get worse. Augie Ojeda, anyone? ![]() You know, I've been thinking about this while I've been writing. And if the Cubs decide they are out of it anytime soon, then I agree with you 100% As I said, Theriot hasn't shown anything, but he hasn't had much of a chance to. If the Cubs bail on the season, it's a perfect time to find out if he CAN play. In fact, if the Cubs become sellers, I'd say bring up Pie too and let's see what he's got. I'm trying to think about the entire Cubs ML roster. I can't really come up with anyone that I really hate. I dislike Baker, but wouldn't go as far as hate. From what I can see, this years team seems to be a pretty good group of guys, for the most part. They just aren't a very good team.

Yeah, I am known for flying off the handle and my irrational hatred of random things.
But, to be fair, my hatred of Neifi perez stems from his days in colorado. I threw up in my mouth when the cubs acquired him. And I die a little every time he's in the lineup. I used to feel much the same way about Derrick May and Lenny Harris. He sucks, so he's an easy target on to which to project decades of frustration. But, if you see someone run on to the field next weekend against the twins and try to take him down, well, it's not me. I swear. |

![]() Steve Trachsel. Now, that guy, I hated. Human Freakin' Rain Delay. Never had a loss that was his fault. In fact, is he still playing? If he is, I still hate him. ![]()

AHHH! we almost fell off the front page there!
Anyway, tomorrow I might get to experience something I've always wanted to see- A mark prior injury, in person. I've seen Kerry Wood leave a game early with a blister already, but it'd be awesome to get the DL Twins double out of the way while I still can. I used to get so excited for a cubbies game. Now, I'm wondering if I can even get face value for my tix |

Was at the game last night, and a feel things showed themselves that don't make TV-
this team is listless. No spark at all on anything, and they are mailing it in. In June. Dusty Baker is a ****stain. He left Marmol in to hit his 100 pitch mark when he was clearly struggling with his location from the beginning. What good does it do to leave the kid in there while he's laboring so much? Neifi Perez really really sucks, but so do the rest of the hitters. For some reason, Henry Blanco was swinging 2-0 (and 3-1) with runners on 1st and 2nd. And there were many many many 2 or 3 pitch ABs. This team is a mess, and its a mess of the sorts that can be blamed on the manager. Two-The HHH Metrodome is a horrible place to watch baseball. The hot dogs suck and they only have miller and leinekugels. Booo. |

Errm... No, Baker does have to go.. Thanks to him I cannot stand to watch the Cubs anymore. I wouldn't mind watching them if I could see a team that WANTS to play. That fault goes to Baker. |

Yeah, I read that this morning. Gene Eyechart has lost touch with reality and ESPN cements itself as the most overrated news outlet ever.

Ultimately, it's shared blame. Baker is doing a poor job motivating his players, and his players are playing poorly, but at the same time, he can only play the hand he's dealt by Hendry. Then again, he loves playing the Neifi Perez card...

Shared blame, yes, but its much easier (and smarter) to can a manager than trade a roster full of underacheivers. Much like the manager of a struggling sales department, some one has to take ultimate responsibility for the situation and that is dusty baker. He's not a good manager, and frankly, I hope to never see him in a baseball uniform ever again.

![]() I firmly believe that nothing will seriously improve on the North Side until the fans stop buying tickets and showing up 39,000 strong - especially with direct competition for the bandwagon fans right in town. |

Anyway, as far as being a scapegoat goes . . . that's part of what being a manager is, for better or worse. Certainly, a manager has an impact on the team, but most of it is immeasurable. Taking responsiblity for what happens on the field, and learning from it, is the number one thing I expect from a manager. And it's in this regard the Dusty "dude, wait til my boy, D-lee gets back in a couple months" Baker has let down the Cubs. |

All I know is that my love for the Cubs is as strong as ever, which explains my depression.

almost 20 days without a cub's related post?
Wow. Anyway, trade deadline is this weekend, who should go? (Should Be) Gone: Maddux: Let him win, get a few prospects, bring him back as a player/manager next year. This after all, is the club that brought us the college of coaches way back when. Walker: Why are we keeping him around? Trade him and lets see if Theriot has the chops to be anything useful next year. Pierre: No sense in keeping him around at his price, just let Pagan run out the string. We aren't going to win anyway, might as well get a useful prospect or two. Jones: If we can find someone to take his albatross of a contract, we need to do it. Eyre, Rush, Dempster, Howry: I say get rid of one of our useful guys, but only if they'll take McGlendon as well. Nevin: Contending clubs can afford to carry a LH power guy on the bench. The Cubs should give that roster spot to a young guy and look to next year. The only player mentioned in rumors that I don't understand getting rid of would be A-Ram. He's having a down year, sure, but he's still a premier 3B and we've got nothing at all in the pipeline to replace him. Other than that, I'd just like to see the Cubs do something that shows some view for the future. They are run very poorly and it seems without vision or a plan in place. Unless of course their plan was to live this year, which really needs to be revisited. Oh, and fire Dusty. |
