The Graphical future of OOTP

Im sure this have been discussed before....so forgive me if I've missed it.

In reading a thread yesterday I was reminded just how much I loved the old FPS baseball games.(FPS football was great as well) Especially FPS98....Sure it didn't have the depth of OOTP, and obviously OOTP is a far better game and will only contunue to evolve.

But, one of the things I loved about the game was the ability to watch the game play out. Watching those little figures run out a double made the game a bit more real to me.

So my question to Markus, Marc, or anyone who cares to answer is...Are there any plans to incorporate a graphical presentation of the game being played out into the game somewhere in a future release?

Don't get me wrong, Im not thinking of EA Sports MVP or High Heat graphics. Just something simple to give the game a feel. It may not be for everyone, so maybe it could be an option or something.

Just Wondering....

Another thing I would like to suggest that Markus consider is....incorporating some photos and screenshots of witwerk8267's girlfriend/avitar into the game. It would really add to the game for me...

I agree with both of those options.

I disagree. Puresim has simple graphics although not quite what you're talking about. Problem is that the ootp pbp is so good and you can't read it and watch graphics at the same time. You can realistically use only one or the other at a time. I like the pbp best. Others might like graphics.

The thing I'd like to see is different graphics for the players on the field. Something simpler without the circle pictures.

Simple graphics would be great for me...wouldn't have to be too fancy.

FPS baseball was pretty good.

I have heard that Earl Weaver Baseball had great graphics years and years ago.

Prefer it to text.

Oh, man, if I could get the graphics of Old Time Baseball (with Mel Allen calling the games) and the depth of OOTP, I'd die of happiness.

"He's got a good eye up there at the plate." remember that?

One thing I miss in OOTP, that OTB had and even PS has, is the ability to play historical teams from different years against each other. What is needed is a the ability to set a fictional league but populate it with teams from a database.

Then get Vin Scully to call the games from the ootp pbp.

You can do this in OOTP 6.5 very easily.

My guess would be an FM-style representation, basically showing you where the ball goes, fielder and runner movement. Maybe 2007.

Wasn't there a Microsoft graphical baseball game that used the OOTP engine for financials and roster management?

Well, I know the game existed, because I owned it (and liked it a lot), but I'm not 100% sure it was OOTP's engine they used.

This is what I'm hoping for. The game already tracks where the ball is hit to, so I'm hoping it'll be doable.

EWB was great.

I really think adding graphics would be a great enhancement. As much as I enjoy the game, I prefer to "watch" the play happen than to read the text.

And I think it would be great in 2006 also. I'm not going to buy 6.5 just for that.

Reminded me of Earl Weaver Baseball as well. I can't tell you how many games of EWB I played.

I'd even take the old sprite based MicroLeague graphics. I think some sort of real time graphic representation would add so, so, much to the game. If I recall MicroLeague had both -- scrolling text that was in step with the on--field graphics. That would be too darn cool.

It is amazing that years and years ago we had Earl Weaver, Front Page Sports Baseball, High Heat and probably the best IMO Tony LaRussa that all had graphical manger based games.

They were all fun and amazing, but lacked the depth of todays games.

today we get two choices:

arcade joystick jockey games that look amazing but have absolutely no resemblance to the actual game of baseball

fantastic in-depth games like OOTP that have no graphics at all.

Oh how I long for a game that plays like Tony LaRussa, with the current generation of graphics with the depth and realistic results of OOTP.

Holy blast from the past Batman!!

I hadn't thought about MicroLeague in years. Great game and a wonderful stats-based game.
