Despite not giving an ETA, I do appreciate giving us a heads up that the rosters have a good amount of work left on them. I know some of us were checking everyday to see, we can chill out now.

I think I'll be going with the old rosters and making some manual tweaks and playing with 6.51. I look forward to your guys rosters though and seeing how the game plays with them. It's just 2006 is pretty bad right now, so hopefully your rosters and a new patch come out soon and I can switch back.

I have a baseball related website, www.bleedingblackandorange.com (shameless plug ) and I have tons of server space available. I'd gladly host the sets if you would like.

email me at webmaster@bleedingblackandorange.com

Will get at you in a bit, what I'm looking for initially is a place just to host the HTML files for people to look at and bitch at me about.

Also, I'm keeping track of what AAA/AA guys I need scouting reports on (pitches, speed, fielding, running) that I couldn't find online, so hopefully if I post those as I get done team by team, we can get these really polished when they are released.

If you want to do all of the FTP work on it, you are more than welcome to use my site. How much space would it take up? I shouldnt have a problem with it, but just wondering.

I hope they are reading this.
Well, for starters, MLB switched to an exclusive license system this year, so it's not terribly likely ootp was going to get it, especially considering that EA with all its resources lost out on the license, and went and got the NCAA license to put out a baseball game this year (which btw, is pretty fun).

Also, ootp has never had a license, so it's not a new thing with SI being cheap/greedy (if you don't already know, this is the 7th version on ootp, and SI has only been involved with this one).

Sure, I'd love for the game to come prepackaged with accurate roster lists and such, but consider that this game doesn't just include the major leagues, but a number of foreign leagues as well. I have a friend who plays football manager (I've never much like metric football), and he said that getting the rosters/players/leagues right was a massive, 10-year, game-community-wide effort. If we wanted the developers to go it alone and do all that, the game would cost about $150 and might come out sometime before 2012.

I have a question about the acutal roster file. What kind of file will it be? Will it be a database we'll have to import (I don't think so, but maybe...)? Will it be a .lg folder that we will have to unzip into our /saved_games/ folder? Will it be a quickstart? How much power will we have over things like financial modifiers and having the choice of using scouts/coaches/rule 5 draft, etc.?

Very true. Though, it would have been nice for SI to release a beta version or something to these roster makers so they could have started putting them together long ago - then maybe they'd be ready by now. Of course, I don't really know if that would have been possible to do while they are still coding and testing stuff... because I don't really know how they design computer games. You know what? I'm just gonna stfu.

I'm pretty sure they did just that. Take it from me (I make rosters for Baseball Mogul), it's a long, hard, tedious process. I think it's probably even harder in OOTP, as the interface simpyl looks more active and harder to work with. I began making rosters for BB2k7 in late January. I got them released near end of March, and that wasn't with accurate pitches for all the pitchers. That took until late April.

I am working on getting you an ftp account setup on my hosting plan that you can have full ftp access to your own directory.. should be in the next day or two if you still need this feature. 30GB a day transfer bandwidth, so I got plenty of space.

Will we see some of these salaries in the game?

While I know it will be difficult to adjust for the Alex Rodriquez salary where Texas is paying for part of it, and then the deferment he is taking for seasons after 2010. It is not 100% complete, but most of them are done and very detailed.

Also you will notice that managers in the big leagues make a whole lot more than $200,000 average. I mean Yankees General Manager and Manager salaries are as follows;

Brian Cashman General Manager
3 years/about $5.5M (2006-08)
  • signed extension 10/05
  • will make between $1.7M and $2M annually, 2006-08
  • club exercised 2005 option 12/04
  • 3 years/$3.45M (2002-04), plus $1.15M 2005 club option
  • hired 2/1998
  • senior VP, baseball operations Mark Newman, assistant GM Jean Afterman
Joe Torre Manager
3 years/$19.2M (2005-07)
  • signed extension 4/04
  • 05:$6.1M, 06:$6.1M, 07:$7M
  • $1M bonus with a World Series victory
  • extension also includes 6-year consulting agreement
  • 3 years/$16.5M (2002-04), plus incentives
    • 04:$5M
  • hired 11/95, replacing Buck Showalter
In contrast, the Kansas City Royals are under these terms...

Dayton Moore Senior VP of Baseball Operations & General Manager
5 years/$5M (2006-10)
  • hired 5/06, assuming control June 2006
  • annual salary of about $1M
  • assistant GM & VP of baseball operations Dean Taylor
  • assistant GM & VP of player personnel Muzzy Jackson (served as interim GM 5/31/06-6/8/06)
  • replaced Allard Baird, who was hired 6/17/00 & received two 2-year extensions (2003-04 & 2005-06)
Buddy Bell Manager
3 years (2005-07)
  • hired 5/05
  • replaced interim manager Bob Schaefer
  • former manager Tony Pena resigned 5/05
    • Pena's original contract: 3 years/about $1.3M (2002-04), plus a 2-year extension (2005-06) (signed extension 10/03)
    • Pena resigned as manager 5/05, but was to be paid through 2006 & remain with club before taking a coaching job with the Yankees for the 2006 season

Cubby, would you be willing to release a partially complete roster as a "beta"?
