I bought this game, and was getting it to download the real rosters, and sim through real up to date seasons, but I find myself enjoying the Fake leagues better. I enjoy playing, and having to scout players that you haven't heard of, and things like that.
So the question is do you like Real Players, or Fake players? |

My Laseron players are real...in Laseron. They contact me through telepathy, I swear.

Same here. I don't like the fact I have some sense of an identity to a player and an idea of their potential. I would rather use my scouts and hope they are assessing them correctly. I also enjoy the "randomness" of fictional players, that you never know who will come into the league and such.
I find I have to play a number of games out before I get a feel for them but eventually the players seem just as real anyway. |

For the first 3 versions of OOTP I alwawys played with real players but I decided to give a fictional league a try in V4 and it is a blast, better than real players IMO.

I got the game to start a historical season in 1984 and play it out. I like to have some fictional players, so every couple of years I fill the Single A minors. I am kind of excited for when I run out of real players to draft and have to draft fictional players.

I start out with the Rolen rosters and gradually make my way into all fictional players. I dont like starting out with all fic players as it kinda overwhelms me with all these strange names. Starting out with real players and gradually moving to all fic players helps me get used to them and become familiar with the players.

I do the same thing as the posters above, and I also like seeing how rookies like Pujols develop, and whether they become Hall of Famers, stars, solid players or if they eventually fall off the track.

I recently did something I've never heard of. I altered the Lahman database and did a lot of math to make it so that every player would come up in the year that he turns 18, but at a level far below his potential. His potential, however, was based on his real life totals. I started in 1901 and am currently in 1920.
What's amazing to me is how many guys never hit their potential and how many get way better than they ever really were. Ty Cobb, for instance, ended up as a .270 hitter, but Homer Hillenbrand ended up having a Hall Of Fame career. In this way, it's like playing a fictional league because you really don't know how good they'll get, but you are dealing with guys who really existed. |
