I can only figure out how to sim them, how can I play in the games?

You have to be "managing" a team and then on the sked screen the option to "manage" the game for your team will appear.

Is there a way to hire yourself as manager in comish mode?

Two ways I know:

1. Click on Manager -> Available Jobs -> apply

2. Upper right corner of the screen, click on "Act as:", then choose your team.
