Just bought PureSim

Installing now and wondering why PureSim is over 200 MB, Mogul is 100 MB, and OOTP is only 33 MB.

I would have assumed the exact opposite. With all the screens and graphics OOTP has youd think it would be the biggest.

Shouldn't this be in OT or somewhere other than here?

Because I mention PureSim? And Mogul? This isnt any more OT than half the other posts. Im asking a question about ootp2006 and it doesnt fit in any other threads. How is it so small if its supposed to be the deepest game of those three?

There is nothing Shaun or Clay are doing to make their games "deeper" by using 100-200 MB of storage. It doesn't work that way and I'm quite shocked their games are that large.

Some of the best games EVER were in the pre-1990 computer years, when everything fit in less than 32K -- that's right K. At best it might span a few floppy disks of 360KB each. It was about gameplay, not increased disk requirements.

I don't know why you're comparing the depth of the game in the installation size.

Plus, wouldn't it be best to have that 33 MB size for everyone since it's convenient.

Sorry you're so shocked. PureSim includes almost 60 megs of sound.

The install includes DirectX 9.0 (for the in-game ball flight animations and ambient sound), which takes up a huge chunk. I didn't want to chance someone installing the game and not having DirectX.

Also, the download is not 200mb its 160, and the actual post-install footprint is nowhere near that.

And the demo is 96mb since we trimmed out some of the more gratuitous intro stuff.

So, are you saying size doesn't matter?

FYI, I wasn't bashing you -- just arguing that the size of the download does not necessarily indicate better things.

PureSim is also a great game, though I've not seen the recent version.

No hard feelings, eh.

IMHO and in this particular case, less is more...
OOTP 2006 is your best bet... guaranteed!

I used to play Baseball Mogul; love the name, hate the game.

Never played PureSim, so I can't comment there... but 60MB of sound... FOR A TEXT GAME!?!?!? Hmmmm... pardon the pun, but is sounds like they're trying to compensate for a lack of something...?!

Shaun, good to see that you finally wised up and switched over to OOTP
