Bug: minor league free agency

In one of my leagues, I selected the option for minor league free agency to kick in after just one year. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work. All of the minor leaguers in this game show contracts that are subject to automatic renewal at the end of the year, and so the players keep getting renewed rather than going onto the open market as I had hoped.

This is a real problem becuase I am trying to play with some unaffiliated minor league teams, and the lack of minor league free agency (combined with the fact that they are not generating any service time for major league free agency) means that the players on these teams are basically trapped there for life. Any fixes or workarounds for this?
