Signing Great Players to Minor League Contracts
I've noticed when dealing with free agents that a lot of the time you can offer minor league contracts and get All Star caliber ball players even during the free agent period. Has anyone else noticed this?

Update:
I signed 6 players seeking 12 million or more per season to minor league deals. Takanibu Sato hit .340 with 31 home runs and 104 RBI's. Howard Johnson hit .298 with 25 home runs and 91 RBI's. Muneyaki Nakano hit .323 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI's. The other 3 were SP and all 3 won at least 18 games and one won the Cy Young award. Has this bug been logged yet? I've noticed it on multiple universe settings at many different times of year. |

I am not really sure how to work around this because if you wait til then, the AI will get a jumpstart on you. If you don't, its like shooting fish in a barrell, way to easy to sign FA's. |

Ive just noticed the same thing unfortunately, does anyone know if this will be addressed in the first patch? Pretty much a game breaker imo,or i guess you can play with the financials off.i wonder how this could have been missed in beta testing. Last edited by Scoman; 06-06-2006 at 08:52 PM. |

I was asked for a status on this one, and I checked, but I don't have any updates. It has been logged, with the # Thomamon wrote, but I don't believe it will be fixed in today's patch. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hm... bummer that this didn't make it in to Patch 1. I hadn't heard about it until recently and haven't gotten far enough in the game to experience it yet (was waiting for Patch 1).
To those of you who have seen it - does the AI know to exploit this fact? If not, I guess you can workaround it fairly easily by resisting the urge to lowball the player and coming up with a "fair" initial offer? Thanks... |

Im playing a historical league with free agency off for now, but I was getting pretty riled up when reading this...if it wasn't fixed, the game would be waaay too easy for everyone. Thank god it got fixed

Free agent bug still exsists
I am still able to sign top notch free agents to minor league contracts, with the new patch, when it happened this time was right before spring training.I havent tried to sign fa in November so i dont know if its still happening then or not. [TT 1731]

If you or anyone else could provide more examples, I would appreciate it. The more detail the better...

I'd like to get some more details too cause I'm trying to low ball some free agents and they're not signing.
It's kind of hard to tell, in the first year with fictional players, exactly which free agents are worthy of "big" contracts but I'm offering highly rated players either a minor league contract or considerably less than what they're asking for and they're not biting. |
