Unable to create any league

Okay I set up a historical league and hit the not enough players on minor league team bug.
So I decided rather then put the game away for 4 days awaiting the patch I figured I would start a completely fictional universe and play through it for 4 days.
Well I tried and I get the same dreaded Windows must shut down error.
I've tried fictional, importing, historical it doesn't matter I get the same error.
I installed only the mod for the dbase historical play.
I've rebooted with no luck and I'm stuck.
Any ideas?

Are you running XP with Admin rights?

Yes. Weird if it makes a difference on the 2nd league created since I can still get into league 1 just can't advance past April 1 because of already posted historic minor league bug.
