Let me just say that while some valid issues have been raised elsewhere, THIS item gets my vote for being the MOST important for a first/early patch. My world is going to need several extended tests before I get it right, and I can already see that some basic league structural issues will be, possibly, among those aspects needing tweaking. Saving as a "quick start" is fine for what it is, but that's for worlds whose basic form has been fixed.

[QUOTE=Splitter24]Bingo. I was working on my 1970 season (which I've been working on for a year, btw ) last night. I'm trying to get the whole set up complete with accurate minor league, but there's no way to save my progress. So I just left my computer on with OOTP running.
[QUOTE]

thats pretty much what ive been doing. even relatively straightforward set ups take quite a bit of time (esp. since you cant type over existing entries, you have to 'manually' delete them first)...i spent a few hours creating a typical MLB setup, but with full minors (lots of team/city names!) only to have the whole thing crash on me shortly after i finished the setup and started the season.

so, another vote for a save creation-in-progress, if at all possible.

For those keeping score at home...

I finally finished setting up my 1970 league without a hitch... I think. I'm amazed that it didn't crash given the problems that other people are having setting up their universes.

Of course. It'll probably take another couple of months to accurately edit every player. But that's another story for another thread.

Creating a large universe is time consuming. But you don't really need to save during creation.

The only thing that needs to be done in the initial setup is to decide:

1. The number of leagues (including the league nations)
2. Minor league affiliations
3. Structure for each league (including #divisions, #teams)
4. Foreigner percentage for leagues
5. Player Creation Modifiers and Equivalencies
6. And, if you are not starting the league with an Inaugural Draft, the Typical Salaries.

Everything else can be changed once you Start Game. As long as you don't advance any days, you can go back to Game Setup as many times as you want (need) to edit league names, division names, team names, award names, options, rules, whatever.

I still like the feature to allow us save before player pool is generated. However, the 6 things you listed above is good enough for me before the save feature is implemented.

Can we also have a * or something next to the settings that MUST be set before clicking the START GAME button? An in-game notification/indication on things that cannot be changed will be very helpful.

Thanks, This is currently what I am doing now. I would still like the pre-"start game" option to save so that I won't have the same player pool each time I start the league over

I agree wholeheartedly. Saving a quickstart is nice, but having the same starting players is annoying.

signed..

I had to leave my OOTP open for three days. When you are creating your first universe, you have no idea what you have to do then and what you can do after you hit Start Game

These two items are exactly the items that I don't believe I can get right without *running* the game out three or four years. And seeing how it's turning out, and going back to tweak. And testing again.

That may be the best post ever. Thanks a lot.

I agree. This would be handy. However, it isn't strictly necessary either.

Ideally, I would like to see the game save individual league "trees" (a parent league and all affiliates) for use in future setups. That way, we'd be able to mix-and-match leagues in future setups without having to re-enter a lot of information.

Chuck my hat in the ring for this as well. I've not even touched the league setup yet. I want to start a new one, but given the level of complexity and the fact you can't quit mid way through doing it and go back to it later, I won't dare touch it yet.

And we could share them.

People are already working on good financials and equivalencies for the international leagues. Once they get them, I don't want a Quickstart, I want something I can use to bring in to future league setups. And if I spend the time creating some well-balanced fictional league, I'd like to be able to store it and bring it in to any future league setup I may create.

The overarching vastness of the league setup configurations that we can create within this game is awesome. But it is A LOT of work. We need more tools for league setup, and THIS is the most important one.

a small bug

Whenever you change your team in the transaction it changes back to the default making it diffucult to transfers multiple players without going back and forth.
