If you're unsure about the game, download the manual that battists & co. have put together. It should give you some background on how things work in OOTP2006.

If you like what you see in there, and feel you have a better understanding of the game, then get it at that time. You'll get more for your money if you do.

Please be honest with your answers.

And I'm talking about it's present status, not about one or two patches later.
I've owned OOTP 5, 6 and 6.5, but I'm waiting until at least the first patch before I buy this game. For me personally, I don't see any real reason to buy the game until the various bugs and issues that have been reported are dealt with. If the reviews are positive one or two patches down the road, I'll likely buy the game. Until then, however, I prefer to be cautious. If you're having doubts about the game, I'd suggest you take my approach and wait a few weeks. If you're happy with 6.5 in the meantime, there's no real urgency to buy the new game.

Look at it this way, if you buy it and you come to regret the purchase you just burned through $35 which in today's game market isn't that much money. Not when you see a lot of games going for $50. If that's too much money for you to lose you shouldn't be buying computer games.

If that's not a good enough argument for you then here's another, ignore the boards for now. You will find quality assessments of the game on here (both in praise and those with constructive criticism or requests for features) but you'll also find lots of flame wars, bitching sessions, and a lot of misinformation as you have to remember people are still reading the manual, they're still trying the game, they still don't know half of what they're talking about. This is not a game for a casual baseball fan. It's not designed to simply sit down, fire 'er up for the first time, and have it mastered inside of an hour. It's deep and will take some time. So, if you don't want to take a blind leap with your wallet then ignore the chatter and wait for the demo (which will also have the first patch in it so some of the problems you've read about may be gone) and decide on your own.

If you want a completely different game that has some similar features to OOTP6.5 and provides a realistic simulation of the game of baseball while allowing you to virtually play in almost any way imaginable (provided you are willing to spend significant time learning the new game to get it to do what you want it to), then yes the game is a bargain at US$34.95.

So true...So true

New buyers of OOTP 2006 should look at this as a new game brought to you by the developer/team that brought you the OOTP franchise but not as a sequel to OOTP 6.5. I will echo....if you are expecting a sequel to OOTP that you can slide into easily....you may be disappointed. If you are wanting a new baseball game that pound for pound has more to offer now (IMO) and has better potential (again, IMO) than grab it now or at least grab the game guide (350+ pages) and wait for the first update on June 7th and buy it then.

I confer. It's like adding another great sim to your computer with the ability to bring in the players from another game.

If you are on the fence. . .

#1 download the game guide and read it
#2 read the boards
#3 download the beta next week

If you like, great! If not, you are not out much except for time.

-A design decision was made to exclude it from now on.
-Due to the nature of doing a complete rebuild of the game, it (feature X) could not be included at the present time so that the rest of the game could get completed.
-It was planned but had to be left out of the initial release and will be added at some point in the future.
-Some other reason that I can't think of due to the late hour.

Respectfully, I have to say that this kind of viewpoint is simply not going to win over the customers that you've disappointed by removing so many features. Instead of acknowledging the problem and making a pledge to address these concerns ASAP (which is usually how OOTP has operated), this seems more like a list of excuses designed to justify an attitude of "take it or leave it." Well, I have chosen to leave it. And unless I see some commitments to changes from the developers and a better attitude toward customer feedback, then I have no doubt that there will be quite a few others that will also "leave it."

I'd suggest wait for the demo and see for yourself, that's what I'm doing. Until then I have 6.5

I honestly can't see what's wrong with what Steve said. Games developers can't design every game based on what every customer asks for - if they did it'd be a complete mess that never got released. At some point they have to decide whether doing something (at all or in a certain way) is worth the time and effort right now and whether it fits into their vision for the game.

And I think criticising the attitude of SI and the other powers that be on this board is way off base. They've been nothing but open and patient since the game was released, IMHO.

Agree..Duffy and Battisti have gone out of their way to personally answer individual issues.

Charlie Hough,

I don't think anyone expects a disappointed customer to be "won over" by being told that their favorite feature didn't make it into the game, for whatever reason. But it seems that Steve's post was a very straightforward explanation of the business process leading up to the launch. He's not in a position to promise that X will get added tomorrow, but:

-Marc and everyone have been tremendously responsive, IMHO, and have committed to a patch release after the first week
-There's hundreds of threads here with personal and positive responses from members of the development team and people like me with "vested" interests.
-There's a list (here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=120897) of bugs that have already been fixed and are being prepared for a patch - three days after release.
-There are many other tech support or feature requests that have received personal responses.
-There are cases where Markus has added completely new features to the released product (ratings on the transaction page) within the first two days of release

To say that you need "commitments to changes from the developers and a better attitude toward customer feedback," as if the community hadn't already gotten this in spades, is tremendously unfair, in my opinion.

I respect your opinion that you're unhappy with the product, and have elected not to play it, but it's unfair of you in this case to denigrate the hard work and positive attitude of this group. IMHO.

Steve

Is the simulation engine better, same or worse?

Does it give better realistic results then 6.5?
