Yes, Im a newbie and Im completely lost... Ill admit it.. help?!?!?!
Right upfront, my main goal: To be able to play actual historical teams/leagues and to be able to hold a draft at the beginning of the season with real historical players (not from the same season). I want to be able to choose all players for the draft for various seasons.
1. I downloaded the Lahman53_csv database and it seems to work. When I choose Batting1966-2005 it then asks me for a year id like. I randomly chose 1984 and it seems to have downloaded the entire 1984 year (pitchers and all) even though I only chose batting... is this correct or do I have to download every file in the Lahman directory for every season I want to use? 2. Is there any way to download all of the Lahman directory at once into the game or does it have to be year by year? 3. How would I go about setting up a draft pool completely from scratch using historical real players? I dont want to, for example, start with 1984 and then add a few from 1986. I want to add, say, 40 players from each year in the 80s. 4. While Im going to use real players from real seasons, Id like the team cities and such to be my own fictional creation (Raleigh-Durham, Sacramento, Cape Girardeau, etc). Do I need to set up that league before the draft pool or can I set up the draft pool before the league? And how do I start a league from scratch like that? 5. I thought I had downloaded 1984 and 2001 from Lahman. I even went into the 1984 Cubs and made lineups and such... but then when i exited and reopened the entire game, neither 1984 or 2001 were listed at the borrom under historical/imported leagues. Why would this be? So many questions and Ill probably have many more..... Thank you so much to whoever helps a newbie with things like this..... Ill more than happily accept answers on here but if someone could meet me on yahoo messenger or aol Id be overjoyed to do some real time running through of the game while i have the screen up. Thanks guys! Shawn |

Not to be unhelpful, but there's a manual inside the Sports Interactive folder. Check that first. This game is not easy to get started with as a first timer so I really suggest that route first. If you do, I promise you'll get so much more enjoyment out of this game than bouncing around the forums looking for help.

The thing is - I did look at the manual that was included in the game. I read both the sections on the draft and the importing of leagues... and didnt find the answers to the above questions. im hoping the full manual that is to be released for download tonight will resolve all of this, but until then.... help?

I am in the same boat that you are. Before I paid for the pre-order I made sure to ask if this option was a possibility. When I was told by Markus that it was, I paid for it immediately. However, I've played with this for about seven hours off and on yesterday and haven't been successful in setting up my league this way. If you manage to figure it out, please post it so others like myself can fully enjoy the game the way they intended. If I do, I'll post it as well. Good luck.

I was told that also and I had the same experience you had yesterday. Ive made a few posts, PMed two of the main guys, PMed four of the veteran players, had two chats on AOL, and have sent 4 emails.... no one has been able to tell me how to do this yet.
To have al all-star league, of sorts, is a very basoc function for a game like trat on PC or even MicroLeague back on Commodore 64. I always thought it was the main purpose of a sim... seeing, for example, Nolan Ryan face Babe Ruth. Ive read through the draft section three times in the game guide and its not there. Im starting to think that the silence in people's responses means it cant be done. They dont want to say "oh, this game cant do that" because then they think they are bashing the game they hold so near and dear to their heart, realizing this is a basic function of a sim sports game. So rather than saying "this game cant do that," they just dont respond. Believe me when I say hope my theory there is wrong. I really want to enjoy this gaem that I have also paid for and have downloaded. I also spent from about 10am yesterday to 1am last night trying to figure it out. And Ive had no answers. Lets keep in contact on this. Thanks, shawn |

I didn't quite spend that much time on it as you had Shawn, but I agree with you whole-heartedly. That was my reason for purchasing this. I did ask Markus prior to paying about this very question. His reply was along the lines of yes, you can do that as well as many other options. I am not going to bash the game because there are a few other things that I can do with it, but I don't understand why this question isn't being answered by anyone.

I think a few features need to be requested to make this a reality with out doing everything manually. What you want to do, can be done manually. I will explain in detail a bit later this evening and will TT a few feature requests.

BTW, please don't read anything into silence, especially not now. There are only a handful of people reading and responding to Tech Support questions, and frankly, we're drowning.
![]() Silence usually means "I'm not quite sure" or "I'm looking into it"... I think.

Those last two responses give us an optimistic way to look at things because on my post I garnered this:
Right now I don't think that's possible but I could be mistaken. Needless to say, I like your replies more than I like mine. <!-- / message --><!-- sig --> |

How about this reply that I got? Its worth a shot. Time consuming, but worth the shot:
It's possible. Create a fictional league. Turn financials off and get in commissioner mode. Delete the fictional players. Import and sign the players from the free agent screen. A lot of work, but possible. |
