Injury Frequency
Is it me, or does the "average" setting for injuries produce a Chicago Cubs-like number of injuries? I have 5 players on the DL with more getting on there all the time. I've reset the injury setting to "low". Hopefully that will make it a little easier on the team doctor...

The default setting is set to mirror MLB, which makes it a much higher rate than the default in the previous version.

Well, I can understand it coming as a bit of a shock since the injuries didn't occur as frequently in the old versions. It probably feels like a bug if they don't why it was done. |

A lot of people seem to be saying injuries mirrors real life now, but has anyone checked it beyond the designers? In the 3 seasons I've simmed, there was a horrible 2 month period where most of my team was injured but the rest of the time it seemed reasonable to me....but I didn't actually compare it to real life data so that's just my instinct thinking it's accurate.

Or the Yankees. Or the Angels...
I'm looking forward to the challenge of trying to manage around the injuries, I just can't seem to decide what kind of universe I want. So much so that I haven't played a single game yet, and that's what I find the most fun.

My first impression after playing most of the evening last night is the excessive number of career ending injuries. Don't know if it changes based on the period played, but I started a league in 1905 and it's now up to 1940. I only have two hitters with over 2500 hits. All others superstars came up with career ending injuries that stopped them with around 1500 to 2000 hits. The list includes Ty Cobb, Joe Jackson, Nap Lajoie, Zack Wheat, Joe Evans (not a household name but he hit .400 twice in my test league), Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Charlie Hollocher, Rogers Hornsby, and about 5 others I've noticed but forgot. This doesn't even include the ones I've yet to notice.
I like having realistic injuries and if this is realistic then so be it. It's just amazing to see that nobody (except two) that are good enough to get 2500 hits do because of injury. One point of interest is that one of the guys to get over 2500 hits ended up leading the league with over 3200 hits and played until he was 46 (Fred Merkle). So it's possible to have a long career but highly unlikely. But that can probably be said about that time period. Don't know about more modern examples. |

For about 2 years the Orioles' 3 highest paid players(Albert Belle, Scott Erickson, and David Segui) didn't play at all due to injury. Oh, and don't forget Marty "Sunburn" Cordova.
Edit: Ouch. Those cei's do seem high. Last edited by Bobbo; 06-01-2006 at 12:10 PM. |
