My favorite player as a young boy. Only saw him play 5 times in person as we lived 3 hours or so from The Met and I wasn't old enough to drive. Never hit a home run while we were there which disappointed me a little. However I was always amazed to look up into the leftfield upper deck and see the painted seat
he drilled with a monster shot. Great memories.

Also a great blog by Tiger. Makes me want to start a historical dynasty but unfortunatly I only have time to play my current solo league. I tried siming a historical as a second league with v4 but just can't get into the game unless I play every inning myself. Perhaps one day if I ever hit the lotto or retire

You're right. He did not like that nickname because it was a far cry from his personality. Harmon was and continues to be a soft spoken, humble and generous man. I don't think he has ever said a bad word about anyone.

When I said he had one of the great names in baseball I was not referring to the nickname but to "Killebrew".

I was at an Ogden Raptors minor league game in July of '05 and Harmon Killebrew was there doing a guest appearance/autograph signing. I didn't really have anything for him to autograph but it was cool just to shake his hand.

He also has one of the most beautiful signatures...I'm lucky to have it on an (unauthorized) picture (which he noticed and laughed about...but still was more than glad to sign) and a ball.

Many people will be happy with what they are getting, and more power to them. To me, not having expansion included will make it feel like having a lovely new home with no roof.

You mean a game-administered expansion draft in the game. Leagues can be expanded manually just as they were in previous versions.

I think MD is a glass half-empty kind of guy, from the sound of it...

What about one game major leaguer-turned-OOTP legend Clay "Shad" Roe?

This is a situation where I go back to saying the ootp glass is half full. Next year expansion will probably be added. Like every other year, expansion will come at the price of another feature that won't get in until the next year. And at that time the glass will still be half full.

YMMV

Can't wait to try out a fictional league from 1871.. Was always a real pain trying to adjust the settings properly in the older versions for this.

If you get a few, please show the Yankee fans a little love by telling us how Mattingly (other than hit totals), the Mick and Jeter did. Also, how many championships did the Yanks win? I'm guess not 26

Also, did Mo Rivera become a closer or did he have a different career as a starter?
Mattingly - Drafted 10th over all by the Angels in 1981, he would led the American League in hits 6 years in a row (1983-88) and win 4 batting titles. He was second on 3 other occassions. Very durable, he played at least 138 games each of his first 17 years in the majors. His career batting average is 25th best all-time. Won a World Series with the Angels in 1994 and won 1 AL MVP award.

Mantle: Hard luck career. Tore a thigh muscle in his first spring training and was sidelined for a year. He never lived up to his potential after that. Played just 5 seasons with the Yankees before he was dealt to the Dodgers and was gone by 1960. 1119 career games with 196 homers and a .252 career average. His only real glory came in the 1957 World Series when he was 13-for-26 as the Dodgers beat the White Sox. He also won a series title the following year but wen just 5-for-22 that time.

Jeter was taken 6th overall in the 1994 draft by the Atlanta Braves. He is still going strong but so far has 2155 hits (end of 2005) and 231 homers. No postseason action for him as the Braves have not won a division title during his career.

Rivera was a third round pick of the White Sox in 1994 but in December 1995 they dealt him to St Louis for Damon Mashore in the most lobsided deal I have seen so far. Mashore did nothing but Rivera made his mlb debut for the Cards in 1996. He was 17-5 with a 2.27 era that year and was named NL Rookie of the Year. He won 21 games in 1998 and again in 2000. He won 2 Cy Young Awards and a pair of World Series rings with the Cards. He also threw a no-hitter in 1997. After going 9-10 in 2003 he was moved to the Cards bullpen in '04 (this replay's Dennis Eckersley maybe?) where he had 11 saves. He saved 17 the following season. Career record so far is 147-70 with 28 saves.

As for the Yankees. Well, I made a little bit of a screw-up with the team shortname and it cost the Yankees a lot of their big name rookies from the mid-twenties until the mid-50's so they were cheated out of a lot of players. They also never got Ruth, of course, because he was imported to Boston. As a result....Yankee haters will love this one....8 pennants but 0 World Series titles. They are the Chicago Cubs of this replay.

Personally, I like both options. I have run some replays where I want players all playing with their proper teams, at least to start and others where I have a draft and full free agency. The nice thing is there is no right or wrong way, just run it the way you want.

Swampdragon - Both of these new features go back to 1871. Now everyone will ask me "Well OOTP only let's you import historical leagues from the DB as early as 1901, so how could you possibly run a historical league starting as early as 1871?" The answer to that is to start a fictional league in 1870 with the option to import players from the DB instead of creating fictional players and then before the rookie draft for 1871 players just delete all of the fictional players in the league by releasing them and deleting them from the free agents list. All your league will then be left with is historical 1871 players, just make sure you have the "automatically adjust league totals modifiers for historical accuracy" option enabled and you will be simming a historical league starting in 1871 accurate to yearly league ratios. Doing this work-around is of course kind of a hassle and I plan to make an 1871 starter league file available for download as soon as Arod and I finish up our DB.

Reuschel was a third overall pick by the young KC Royals in 1971. He would be dealt to San Diego for Omar Moreno in 1977 where he would finish his career. He had some decent years with the Royals, winning at least 10 games each of his 7 seasons in Kansas City. He was 18-9 with a 2.84 era in 1976. He struggled in San Diego, going 5-11 his first year there and bounced back and forth between the Padres rotation and bullpen. His last season in MLB was 1984 and he finished with a 111-111 career record.

Little brother Paul was a 4th round pick of Cleveland in 1974 and despite staying in the game until 1982, he never pitched a single inning in the majors. (Keep in mind I stayed at 24 times so the missing expansion of 1977 and beyond would have cost a few players their mlb careers)

Banks won 4 gold gloves in his 13 year career. He played just 1444 games first with Chicago and later as an expansion draft pick of Houston (I did the draft myself and moved him because he had lost his job in Chicago the year before and I wanted him back in the majors). By the time he got to Houston he was a mere shadow of his real self, as a broken wrist and a couple of knee injuries took their toll.

As if the Banks news was not bad enough, to make matters worse for Cubs fans - forget what I said about the Yankees being the Cubs of this replay. Thanks to Markus' realism code the Cubs never won a world series, but they did get 5 pennants : 1902, 1903, 1914, 1935 and 1996.
