Jhonny Gonzalez Vs F, Montiel WBO (HBO tonight)

Jhonny Gonzalez Vs Fernando Montiel WBO title fight -

This should be a real good fight tonight - Two of the top younger smaller weight guys going at -

F. Montiel is moving up from JBW to take on WBO King J. Gonzalez -

Both can bang with J. Gonzalez probably having the edge here (he can really hit and loves to let his hand go.....though he has seemingly tried to box a little more of late).

F. Montiel is the current WBO JBW King (or was...think he let the title go to move up)....but he is quite the boxer and has tons of both foot and hand speed).

Should be a good match up -

The undercard has JFW champion Ponce De Leon going up against MAB youner undefeated brother Alejandro Barrera (18-0, 12 KO’s) as well -

Thought the undercard is Paul Williams vs. Mathysse

Yeah, you might be right....I thought I might have read something about them bumping off Pone De Leon Vs MAB younger brother -

Too bad that would have been a good fight to watch....I'm sure they'll show highlights regardless.

We also get to see Fran Charles, Max Kellerman and Lennox Lewis again. They were just awful last time I watched BAD. I sure hope there is some improvement in their chemistry this time around. Also, HBO needs to show all these damn fights in HD, not just a select few.

Pone De Leon KO'd a late replacement for MAB brother - In the 2nd round - (the kid was a JBW taking on this fight).

Williams look real strong and won via TKO 10th...good fight.

And J. Gonzalez won a SD over F. Montiel....in more of a boxing match then many expected...

I thought they were better, but still God-awful. Charles is clueless Lewis adds nothing with his repetitive nonsensical analysis, Kellerman is probably the best of the three but I never could stand him and still can’t.

I like Kellerman the other two are fairly weak. A boring fight for the main event. Had a hard time watching both bouts ... the first one. while entertaining, I was distracted and disturbed by the apparent dead squirrel in the middle of Mathysse's chest.

Then in the main bout I was equally disturbed by Montiel's shorts ... when did Bob Cousy get reincarnated as a little Mexican boxer? Thought short-shorts went out of style with John Stockton.

"repetitive nonsensical analysis"

Very well put & exactly right. Wonder who @ HBO thought Lewis would do a good job there? Yes we all know he was a HW champ but just like most announcers can't box, most boxers aren't that good behind a mic.

mh: I agree on the shorts, where did Montiel get those?

Kellerman is the best announcer out of the three. Paul Williams impressed me but it look like Mathysse only trained half-assed thinking the fight would be a short one. He is just an Argentinian version of Mayorga - swing hard, hopefully you will catch the opponent with a good shot. Those yellow shorts that Montiel wore were really scary. That fight was a little more technical than I thought it would be. Another really hard fight to score as of late. I gave it to Gonzalez by a few points.

That three headed monster (kellerman, Lewis, and the other guy) is pretty weak. I do like Kellerman and if he was teamed with Teddy Atlas, Sean O'Grady, or others he would work well. Lennox Lewis offers nothing but at least he doesn't talk about himself the entire night as Roy Jones did.

Roy Jones was pretty good when he wasn't refering to himself in the third person 98 times in 10 minutes. He did offer some insite as to what was going on in the bout and what would happen a few rounds later. HBO fired him for being difficult to deal with.....he wouldn't show for production meetings and basically did what he wanted. I really couldn't stand Roy though we share the same last name.

I also didn't think George Foreman offered much. I do like Manny Steward but would prefer Teddy Atlas.
