Catobse - Editing

If I discover an error or want to make a change, e.g. Find that in 2008 I listed the wrong manager for a team -- can I use Access to simply go in there and make that change -- run new htmls -- and be done with it?

Is there any risk of harm simply opening the file with Access and then closing it if I decide not to make any changes? I know it sounds simple, but I get a little sc-sc-sc-scared to mess with my database.

Is the area you want to change even remotely easy to find?

There is no harm in opening the database and closing. The only harm would be to open and make edits and not fully understand what you are doing. You wouldn't want to edit say a primary or secondary key unless you really knew the impact and knew which other related tables would need to be modified. Having said that, I can't imagine a scenario where editing a key field would be required.

You can go in and change manager names and just run the HTML again. However, for manager the CATO UI has a nice tool that let you edit them for any season and lets you copy over fields from a previous season. If editing a manager name is what you are after, look at the UI first, the tool is very easy to use.

Its relatively easy to make your way through the CATO schema.

Just curious about this...

You can edit the manager's names in CATO... ie just open up CATO and change from one name to another....

Can you or should edit the manager's name in OOTP6.5 or will this fool up the tracking for CATO.

Thanks.

Once the data is already imported into CATO, changing it in OOTP won't do anything, unless you want to erase the CATO load and start over.

Modifying manager names in OOTP won't screw up future CATO loads because they are not used to match up OOTP teams to CATO teams. However, future imports will have those new manager names.

If you are playing a solo league where you have total control of the manager names its best/easiest to just name them in OOTP and be done with it.

In an online league where human GMs sometimes like to play around with their GM names, I just import them as however they are and then use the copy function in CATO to put the previous years GM names to the newly imported years. Then go through the list and make any changes necessary if any GMs changed that year.

Also its important to mention, to ask your GMs, to not using anything but alpha characters in their GM names in OOTP. OOTP supports some characters that cause the CATO import to fail.
