Which is better to use in OOTP2006...png or jpg?

Does it matter which one you use in OOTPB2006...jpg or png?

My understanding (which may be wrong) is that png will give a better quality to filesize ratio.

PNG is better because it allows tranparency, much better than GIF too in my opinion.
