no thanks. i prefer not to have hidden boosts in performance that have never been proven to happen, no matter how slight.

just because you know ahead of time that Clemens is going to throw his splitter in the dirt on 83% of his 0-2 counts, doesnt mean you arent going to swing anyways

What about former teammates? I've always been under the impression that when facing former teammates, there is a heightened sense of scouting going on.

14.2.1.3 says 20-80 rating scale will be used. I understand this is what is used in RL but can this be changed to some other range? If your other ratings in the game are on a different scale (say 0-100) you'd likely tell your scouts to use the same 0-100 scale.

This second also says, "...on a scale of 20-80, compared to the other players in the currently selected league." Is the "currently selected league" the one in which the scouts work, right?

14.2.1.4 is absolutely wonderful. I love that the new version will be taking philosophies into account. In our days of Billy Beane versus Joe Morgan, it's going to add a whole new dimension to gameplay, having guys making decisions and recommendations based on their own personal biases.

This is important though, especially if you play out your games, because when you are playing out games, there is a scouting drop-down that lets you choose which scouting ratings you wish to see for opposing players. It sucks hard to have the opponent bring in a lefty you know nothing about, because you didn't bother to look him up .
I hope this question gets answered. Anyway... Will we be able to look at some sort of schedule and see where our scouts are currently located, their progress, and what they are scheduled to do next? I think having the whereabouts of the scouts on the team schedule (link/dropdown) and the ability to assign multiple tasks at once would be conveniant and you could easily see where the scouts are needed without going to each scouts page.

You cannot change the scale of the overall ratings.

The comparison is to other players in the league that the player you are currently viewing belongs to. Scouts don't necessarily work in a certain league. They can scout any player in the game world.

Just found out that I was mistaken:

When you start a league, your head scout automatically quick-scouts all players. So, when you enter the inaugural draft, you will have decent scouting data on all players.

But if league started immediately after previous years world series would allow time to do some scouting AND get used to interfaces and game.

Having read through the sample manual and given it more thought, I have to agree that it's absurd conceptually that you should lose scouting reports when you fire a guy. I understand the logistics problem, but can't they at least be archived somewhere?

Yeah, known issue. Ultimately it will either be "Years Left" with the #1,2,3, etc. or "Through" with "2008" and so forth.

There may be some differences in how people are peceiving the 'report' aspect of these scouts. As goes real reports, or at least a close facsimile to what we've been accustomed to previously, these are generally News items or mail correspondence, ranking and rating (rating to a lesser degree) the upper eschelon of the overview. Individual scouting 'reports' are more likely to take the form of the array presentation by category which, from my vantage point, is a relatively passing and renewable resource by almost any personnel with the exception of an extremely experienced Head Scout who can offer very precise evaluations (numbers) and you'd tend, I believe, to keep that kind of personnel on the payroll. YMMV

What I'm trying to say, without diminishing the initial import of scouting results, is that they are not indispensible; the large majority of them (exc. as noted in the example above) variable and likely more important on the short term basis - the length of his employment - that any grand scaled plan for league-wide quantification. These are guys who do the job, do it the best they can under your supervision and some a little better in one area than another. What he 'wrote down for remembering' will, again in my opinion only, more likely be in the form of a future performance forecast (News item or email) or a personal note you've taken about a player on your Shortlist you plan to include in your own future development.

It's a wide world of potential development, the world of scouting. I think it is an outstanding evolution in the game for a variety of reasons. But I will step out on a relatively sturdy limb and claim that its world of possibilities rely much more on their creative use, future expansion (ala The Advance Scout), and your own involvement in their assignments than it will, at all, on any given individual set of numbers recorded with one individual player.

Does this mean that the AI teams will have a strategy? For instance some teams will go for power while others go for speed?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but is it possible for former players to come back as coaches or scouts?

Yes.

Not only that, scouts have their own preferences as well. So, when you hire scouts, it makes sense to look for scouts whose preferences are similar to your own.
