What's With The Fonts and Background? (OOTP5 Free Version)

I used to have OOTP5 on an old computer, back when the game was sold through 400 software studios. But I just installed the free download on another computer, and the fonts are basically unreadable against the backgrounds of all three skins. Is there a way to fix this? There is no way I can play the game without being able to read player attributes and the text properly.

The menus are also horrible. The backgrounds for the menus are essentially transparent, which makes it very difficult to read the menu options.

I managed to find the default background picture and change it, but now the menus are still very difficult to view and navigate.

Well, it's all gotten much worse. The play-by-play does not show up properly in the game. There are fonts overlapping other fonts on the game screen, and I got a crash when I tried to exit my first game. There is definitely something very wrong with this free version that's been distributed.

Game folder select "game config" file then toogle 3D setting.

It's not the game, it's likely that you need to update your video drivers.

I managed to find another thread that mentioned the toggle option for 3D. That seemed to solve the problem. As far as I know, my video driver is updated, but I've just downloaded another update file from Dell, and we'll see if it works after I restart. This is the only game I've ever played that has caused any problem.

I ran the latest video driver update from Dell, but I still have problems with the menus. So I'll have to play with 3D effects turned off. I have a Dell Inspiron notebook PC with 2.3 Ghz processor and 768 MB of RAM. I also noticed that it's impossible to play out a game while also having the scoreboard updates from other games. It causes the game to slow down and go unresponsive for long stretches. This despite the fact that I can play Football Manager 2006 very easily on this same machine, with very good speed.

Not really sure what it causing that, my guess is that it is something system specific as I can run FM2006, OOTP 6.5 at the same time with the scoreboard option on and have no issues.
