Maddux, Clemens, Johnson are all 18, who you drafting?

Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson are each 18 years old in modern era baseball. You are the gm with the first pick, who you got?

Ok I'll toss in a 18 year old Barry Bonds since it seems to be no contest for Clemens. Clemems, Maddux, Johnson, Bonds are all 18, who you got now?

I love how two responces equals no contest. ...though in fairness, it is unlikely many will disagree on that.

Clemens is more valuable than even Bonds.

Clemens, still since a pitcher can shut down an entire lineup. And I'll give him $10 million/yr for 25 years as his rookie contract.

If it's age 18, I don't see any argument putting too much faith on any of them. Players that young could burn out easily.

Bonds. Good as he is, Clemens is only going to pitch for me every fifth day.

Well Bonds will only get a hit every third at bat. Granted it may be a homer.

Assuming that I would know nothing of their baseball careers in the MLB and just what I would have seen of then in high school as 18 year olds I would have probably gone with Johnson

Didn't Johnson suck as a youngster?

Like the rest, I'd draft Clemens.

Then again, was Clemens even drafted when he was 18? Clemens only achieved blue-chip prospect status after his 4 years at the U. of Texas. Randy Johnson likewise wasn't considered much of a baseball prospect out of HS (Basketball yes, but baseball no).

Tough one, after eliminating the benefit of hindsight and considering the age that we're required to draft them, that is.

I'll pick Maddux, not because he's a better pitcher than Clemens (he's not) but he's such a nice guy and in my organization character counts for something. I don't think I'd be kicking myself with that choice either.

He had certain control problems from what I remember. Just ask John Kruk.
