Looking for fictional league to join

I have just discovered OOTP Baseball and am very interested in joining a fictional league. Being new however, I'm not sure if I need to own the game (Someone told me this runs on Season ticket Baseball. Is this true? If it does, is it exclusively on STB, or is there another to get on board with this game?)
-Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help.

STB 2k3 is the retail version of OOTP4. They are pretty much the same product minus challenge mode. There are leagues that run with STB, with members that has OOTP4, and vice versa

Are there leagues that don't require either? I am active in a BBPro 98 league and it's prety good, but I'm looking for more action.

There are many. You have to do a little searching. I can't think of any myself, because all of the leagues I was involved in had the game requiered

Thanks for your input. Where can I go to search for these leagues? Or would you recommend that i shell out the bucks (How much would it be?) and would that give me greater input to my team and the game?

this is a good place to search for some quality leagues. I'm not sure if it's updated or not. I recommend getting the game, just in case you run into a league that requires you owning the game. And it's better then manually making your roster

-Thanks so much. I just found the OOTP homepage, and I think i'm going to download the game . If I download instaed of buying StB, do I still get the same graphics as STB? And after I download, is it as simple as posting that I'm available on this website to join a league, or does downloading the game come with other options as well.
-I appreciate all of your help, I just want to make sure that I'll be getting the same for my $30.00 downloading it if not more as I would if I would do the game for free.

Swan, download the demo game. Play with it for a couple of days. Now that you know this is the game of your future.

I would guess if you could find STB for now at a cheaper price then $30, go for it. In April or so, OOTP5 will be out. This is where you want to put your money into.
Most leagues will convert to OOTP5, making whatever you buy right now obsolete for online leagues.
Either way you go, have fun!

Like I said, STB is the retail version of OOTP4. Graphics are pretty much the same IMO

I think it is under $20 now (discounted). You WILL get your money's worth if you are into baseball stats or text based sports games.

Joining leagues is extremely simple. There are a million of 'em and new ones each week. However, joining a stable, fun, and competitive league can be more of a challenge. I suggest you look into leagues before you jump into the first one that comes along. Try visiting league web sites and emailing the Commissioner and/or participants.

Good luck!

You will enjoy being in an online league a lot more if you actually own the game. If you don't mind paying $20 now for OOTP4 and $30 in April to upgrade to OOTP5, do it. And as Livnlegend said, it's very easy to get into a league once you decide you want to. The easiest way is to just look for openings posted on this forum. The downside to this is that you often don't know what you're getting into, and a lot of leagues do end up folding, which is a drag when you've put time and energy into it.

A better way to find leagues IMO is to shop around- look through the leagues on ootp-leagues.com, and also the ones in peoples' signatures on this forum. Find a bunch that look good, and then email the commissioners and ask to be put on the waiting list. By the time you've learned the ins and outs of OOTP on your own, you'll probably get in somewhere. I can highly recommend both the ABA and HHBC, two fictional leagues that I'm in, linked in my signature. Other fictional leagues I've seen that look good are the NOBL and USBA. Good luck.

The ABL, listed in my sig, is a league chock full of history and whatnot. All of the leagues Manny listed are solid as well.

Peace
John

One more thing... I highly suggest playing a solo league, run a few season before getting into a online league, so you get the grasp of how to run a successful team

If you are still interested, the BPLA has a few openings left. Its a brand new league and few of the owners are first time onliners. Check out the rules, if you like what you see, send me an e-mail and sign right up.
