4 by Shelton, making me feel really smart, if only for a few days. I do love the beginning of the season, where a fantasy team can ride the wave of tiny sample sizes...

Shelton was great last year for a few months but killed my fantasy team towards the end. I ended up putting Dunn at 1B and starting an OF of Sizemore, Crisp, Holliday once Crisp came back from injuries.

He may have tailed off at the end, but Shelton's year overall was el fabuloso.

Dombrowski's performed a trio of masterpiece acquisitions in his time in Detroit, stealing Shelton from the Pirates via the Rule V draft, getting Carlos Guillen for a song from the Mariners, and snatching Placido Polanco from the Phillies. Shelton's line in 1,186 minor league at bats is .332 BA, .428 OBP, and a .539 slugging percentage. He has raked the ball at every level and it was criminal stupidity by the Pirates in leaving Shelton off the 40 man roster.

You realize he went 2 for 3 tonight, and his average went down? Wow. We don't see much of this in Michigan, I'm gonna enjoy it.

Go Tigers! It's good for baseball to have Motown back in the mix. All they need now is an outfielder named Chet & a pitcher named Morris and they'll be all set.

Verlander is the goods. Tata also looks like he's going to be a good one, and Zumaya has blistering stuff.

Looks like things are finally looking up for the Tigers for the first time in a long, long time.

Rangers up 5-3 heading into the 7th inning and Shelton is 0/3 with two K's.

Most likely I've now jinxed my Rangers.

Well, the Rangers hitters have seen him pitch a few times.

If Detroit ends the season in the playoffs, I'm sure you'll forgive them.

Some Tiger notes from the game.

Chris Shelton had been powering the Tigers, but he slowed Sunday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, dropping his average from .700 to .583.

The Tigers haven't made an error, their longest clean streak to open a season since 1994.

Tigers starters won the team's first five games, something last done by the club in 1911, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. It last happened in the majors by the 1999 Boston Red Sox.

Meh, it was bound to happen. It appears Tata got in the game, but had more walks.

Nice to see Granderson pick up two walks and a nice double He has a world of potential if he can keep his strikezone judgement.

Not really sure why Inge was batting third, but whatever. He still is a K machine, wish we could move him back to the utility role.

All we really need to contedn is have the bullpen produce. Zumaya is a future starter, but 60 good innings from him out of the pen would be great for our chances this year. Rodney is good, and we hve a few other passable guys, we just need a good setup man.
