"What's Your Offer?"

Someone mentioned this in the thread on 'Don't like your organization'. Basically, it's a put-off when a player gives you this gambit at contract time. Instead of guessing, it would be nice if in OOTP2006 we did get a ballpark figure.

What about reviewing his previous contract and adding/subtracting accoring to how well he performed?

The problem I've noted with that is when a player is coming out of his arbitration years. It can be awfully hard to guess what to offer with a lot of the best players as to what his contract should be.

I would think the player's agent would be able to give you a starting figure IRL.

Or failing that, if you could at least read news reports during the free agency period, saying that your star player is 'rumored' to being offered such and such by Team X. I never bought into the idea of being completely left in the dark as to what other teams are offering (when playing in manager mode). Those kind of things do get picked up by reporters. Even if the report was not completely accurate, it would at least give you an idea of the offers the player is considering.

I think it would also be nice if you could lockup young talented players during their arbitration years (ie Grady Sizemore). A lot of major league teams (well, at least the smart one) do this for top talent.

In a previous solo league, I remember locking up my young ace pitcher with a 9 million/7 year deal. He had 2 arbitration years left. That is what he asked for and I took him up on it. That was sweet.

That would work for me.

You can already do this.

I like the idea of having some sort of feel on what the market is. Even if it is just the player's agent trying to get you to engage in a bidding war. The player's responses in free agency can use a little work.

I was thinking maybe this could be a topic for a blog....but then I remembered that those are just a thing of the past now.

Not a thing of the past, just none until Marc has more substantial news to release.

In my mind, it would work a lot better if players asked for too much -- even far too much rather than refusing to give any number at all. It would at least be a lot more realistic.

That would be something. A message like:

I really want to play for a respectable franchise dedicated to winning and to appeasing thier fans; not the Chicago Cubs. But I guess I could play in your worthless rundown ball park for A-Rod money.

No, I was not referring to an unwillingness to sign, I was referring to the "make an offer" gambit. I believe that this is meant to add some spice to negotiations, by simulating being difficult to deal with. But in real life, the agent doesn't do this by saying "Guess" he does it by making unrealistic demands.

Yeah I've read a lot about OOTP:BM but I've yet to see any blogs or info about this. Is it fair to assume that the "official" feature lists are just incomplete?

Absolutly. In a sense that is what the game does with that "Let me hear your offer". And then you offer it and they say "I want more money". How much would you want?

"Let met hear your offer"

This can't be real. Are sports agents really that dumb?

Rosenhouse: Next question!

Do to circumstances in the past, i believe it is the policy of markus not to discuss features until they've been added to the game. That way no one can complain if for whatever reason he is unable to get a feature in the game. So a long answer but yes, the official feature list i would assume is incomplete.

I actually agree that this is a good way to go about announcing things. If Markus were to say "HEY ITS DONE!" and then its broken, everyone in here would have a fit.

If I were running things it is definatly the road I would go. It is the safest bet. Especially considering the past...
