Post ***Updated on the Corrected Lahman 4.5 Database***

Thanks to some help from blmeanie, the corrected Lahman V4.5 database has been updated and is currently in testing... if all goes well with our tests tomorrow, then the file will be submitted for upload tomorrow night and should be available soon.

This revision:

1) Adds missing stats from 1871-1876
2) Fixes stat sorting issues

In addition to all previous updates.

I'll update you on the testing progress tomorrow.

Any chance of changing fielding percentages and primary defensive position to what players normally played similiar to what Iatric did with the previous DB only without changing the players rookie stats to a career average?

Basically what I am asking for is a remade fielding.csv that will allow Jimmie Foxx to import as a first baseman and not a catcher. It will also allow Brooks Robinson to import with a far better fielding percentage than the .825 or so he posted his rookie year.

I've been waiting for Scott to complete all of his edits then planned on doing the same thing for my use (and Boys of Summer and Glory Days). Scott, feel free to do it yourself, otherwise let me know when done and I'll do it.

Will these corrections include fixing some of the off-the-wall stats that exist in the database, such as Pat Dobson's 1973 win-loss record being listed as a Wilbur Wood-like 24-30?

Robo Newbie,

Some of those corrections should have been completed in version one of my revised database... the errors were caused by the TOT entry for pitchers who played on more than one team during the season and also because of the messed up sorting by date in the spreadsheet.

Iatric,

I'll send you some email later tonight with the file, assuming all tests on the file go well.... I'll leave the positional work to you, its probably smarter to let you handle this since you've done it before.

Initial Tests have gone well. Pending a few other tests I'll submit it for upload.

Here is the ReadMe file for the second revised version of the 4.5 Lahman Database.

Lahman Database 4.5 - Revised Edition (4.5.2)
Last updated April 30, 2002

Questions, Comments Email Me: at vibdog@hotmail.com

First and foremost I'd like to thank Steve (blmeanie) for
running these files through a program to get the sorting
correct to prevent other statistical import oddities.

To Install Take these files and replace the existing pitching,
batting, fielding, and master .csv files in the Version 4.5
Lahman Database.

Version 4.5.1 Fixes:

1) Added Missing Biographical Data for players who debuted from
1998 - 2001, and some from earlier seasons
2) Corrected some incorrect birthdates
3) Removed Pitcher Statistical Issue. Pitchers who
appeared on more than one team, had double the stats in
the original database, this was fixed.

Version 4.5.2 Fixes:

1) Added missing stats for the 1871-1875 Seasons
2) Corrected Statistical Issues caused by improper database sorting

Enjoy.

When they upload it you should be able to get it from Baseball Sim Central

If I am in the middle of a career in which I was using 4.5.1, can I begin using 4.5.2 midway through the career without any problems? Can I just overwrite 4.5.1 with 4.5.2 on my c:\drive?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes you can.. there should be no ill effects. In fact the 4.5.2 update is just 4 files Master, Batting, Pitching, and Fielding and to install you need to overwrite the existing copies.

Does 4.5.2 include the fixes from 4.5.1?

i.e. -- If I'm working with the Lahman original 4.5, do I need to install 4.5.1 and _then_ do 4.5.2? Or just the brand spankin' new one?

TIA,
Jon

The brand spanken new one has all of the fixes.. the four files included in the downloads are the only ones I've monkeyed with.

Hope this helps.

Bad news.. Baseball Sim Central is holding off on uploading the file at the moment as they are concerned of potential legal issues if they upload it... so until I can do some digging and alay their fears the revised database will remain unavailable... I will try and get this straightened out as soon as I can.

mmm, if there are "legal issues" to be concerned with in this updated version, what about those same "issues" with previous versions? Or, for that matter, any and/or all roster sets using the real names of mlb players.

There aren't that I know of, so long as you aren't charging anything or making money off of the update, I just have to do some digging so I can convince them.

I did mention they have hosted other revised editions of the database in the past...

They are just practicing the principle of CYA, which I can understand and respect. Once I prove its all good, then there should be no problems.

isnt sean like a counsulant for .400 software studios. Unless he has a problem with it which i dont see why he would but if he doesnt then i dont see what the problem is.

To me i would think Sean would welcome any corrections people find or any information.

I know i changed the death date to retirement dates.
To some it may be important but to me i could care less when they died but when they retired.
