ORB 90's historical league needs a few

The ORB is looking to fill a few openings.

Shortly after the announcment of the tentative release date for the new game it was decided by the governing board that a new league would be formed using the new game and starting back in the 1970s. With that a few owners have stepped down allowing themselves time to dedicate to the start up of that league. We also lost a few owners to college when it started up. With the number of openings we had from the previous year we contracted before the start of the 1997 season. The year has been spent evalutating if there was enough interest in keeping the current league going as we get closer to catching up with real life. As we near the end of the 1997 season the vast majority of owners want the leauge to live on. Based on that feedback, it is time to open up shop again and do some recruitment.

All open teams have been run by another owner in the league since the off-season started so they have not just been run by the CPU.

The following teams are open.
Washington Grays - This club is looking at a last place finish, which will translate to a top 5-10 pick for them in next years draft (we use the standings from the previous 3 years to somewhat stop tanking). Top players on this team are Charles Johnson, Scott Rolen, Derek Jeter, Mike Lansing, Johnny Damon and Barry Bonds. What this team has lacked the past few years is pitching. Thier financial situation is very solid. This team is a project in the works and with some of the hitting talent, could be a quick turnaround if you are willing to go the rebuild route and trade these guys.

Toronto Blue Jays- One of the leuages current door mats. The pervious owner has been spending a lot of time working on getting a record deal, so the Jays have lacked consistant direction the past few years. The majority of bad contracts are up this year and a young Andrew Jones to build around. If my calculations are correct, you wil have Pedro Martinez for one more season as he will miss free-agency by a few days. Pedro really should be flipped to the highest bidder as he all indications are pointing to him not resigning with the Jays. Trading Pedro would jump start the rebuilding that desperatly needs to occur.
Filled

Detroit Tigers - Has a better record and just recently fell out of the wild card race. The also need some pitching and are lead by Eric Davis, Troy Percival and Jeromy Burnitz. Paul Kornerko, just bumped into his ratings and is primed for a solid rookie season in 1998.

Atlanta Braves - Are sitting 8 games back of the wild card and realistically need a miricle to make the post season. Mo Vaughn, Jim Edmonds and Bartolo Colon lead the way.

New York Mets - Currently 4 games back in the wild card race, and 4 back of Philly (which just lost a top player for the year) in the east race. The Mets went to the NLCS last year and lost to the Cardinals. John Olerud (has some power here), Gary Sheffield, Ryan Klesko, Tom Glavine, Aaron Sele and Antonio Osuna lead the way.

Houston Astros - Currently 3 games back of the wild card and just recently went into a slump and slipped a little back in the NL Central race. A former doormate of the league, they now are playing like they want to actually win something. Lead by Mike Piazza, Tino Martinez, Nigel Wilson, Henry Rodriguez, Ugueth Urbina, Jose Lima, and Derek Lowe.

New York Yankees - THe best of what is open. They are currently 8.5 up in the AL East and don't look to be slowing down. Lead by Brien Taylor, Mike Mussina, Mike Jackson, Howard Johnson (Chasing 500 homers this year), Moises Alou and Dave Justice. A great club for someone wanting to jump right into a playoff race and the post season.

St. Louis Cardinals - The really only have Rod Beck and are in need of a rebuild. Previous owner rolled the dice the past couple of years for playoff spots.

If you are interested please stop by and fill out our Application .

We will be finishing up the year next week and have the season done by the end of the month.
