platooning

Having read about a gazillion posts on platooning, I'm still not clear on the most effective way of getting accurate lefty/righty splits.

Supposing one wishes to edit the 1974 league. After all has been revised, do you use the random button, or will that further skew the ratings, creating lefties too dominant?

I read someone's post about rookies just "popping out of midair". I think the individual could fix this himself if the sim engine allows. For example, say Yogi Berra appears as a 22 year old rookie. If I change his age to 19 will that impede his progress a year or two? Or do I have to make other edits on his ratings?

The goal is to keep rookies from appearing as though the come from an NFL type draft. So, how would you do that with the editing tools provided?

By the way, one week in and I'm beginning to love the "Universe." Took me a little while to set aside the strat-o-matic state of mind. I agree with someone who said that finishing a season in strat-o-matic always left a sense of "what next?" Also drove me crazy when guys like Johnny Bench would have a .234, 15 homer year. Stuck with a card that was really nothing like Johnny Bench.

By the way, I love how you can manipulate reality in this game. And regarding what "reality" really is: If I were playing with strat-o-matic cards in the late 70s and had someone hit not 61 or 62 or 63 homers, but 73!!!!!!!!?????, I would've thrown down the dice and said, " COME ON!!! That's not realistic!" And growing up in an ERA when an awesome hitting shortstop was Davey Concepcion, to see a rookie "generated" like Alex Rodriguez (not to mention the rest of the steroidal class of the past 5 years)would have sent me frothing to the edit area!

Had there been computers in the early 20s when a pitcher turned outfielder started hitting nearly 3 times more homers than anyone else, some "realist" no doubt would have thrown Babe Ruth into the trash bin.

However, a technical problem. I downloaded an historical names add-on that seemed to screw up the game. I reinstalled and while I can get players into the 2002 league, none appear in the custom league. Just blank rosters. Any ideas?
