Post "I shudder with EXCITEMENT just thinking how good this game could be with real ....."

RADIO BROADCAST style audio, soothing dynamic crowd SFX that react to the action on the field (play by play ) and your basic distant sound effex of bat cracks, umpire calls, vendors...ect

Very similar to either listing to a ball game on an old AM radio OR exactly the audio that you hear in BROADCAST BLAST baseball. I simply LOVE the idea of this and would love this game's wonderfully descriptive and graphic play-by-play brought to a realistic announcer with audio

ANy plans for this??....it would be simply amazing!....AMAZING! Imagine listening to your fictional little league announced by a real broadcast announcer??....c'mon!!!

I owned Broadcast Blast, still have it installed even -- and never play it, because it takes just too darn long. Sure, it's fun once in a while (as in, once a year).

But, if you ask me, I'd rather the statkeeping errors in the game engine be fixed long before worrying about anything of this ilk.

DF: As I said in Joe Stallings audio post elsewhere in this forum section, I used Baseball for Windows (i.e. Broadcast Blast) for years prior to switching over to OOTP. Yes, I loved Ernie Harwell's play-by-play (and had it been Vin Scully instead, I never would have abandoned it ). But for a fictional league, especially, BBW had too many limitations, because of Ernie's database of player names, cities and team names. Three of my favorite named players--German Youngberry, Barriman Fairfax and Nesbit Stillingfleet, became nothing more than initials to Harwell. I don't want to lose that creative flexability again now that OOTP has restored it to me!

Mambo....think about what your saying here.

You would rather NOT have the added excitement and take the game to even further heights just because certain names couldnt be anounced??

My friend that is such a minor limitation that could easily be covered up by just anouncing the player's position or assigning him a 'nickname' from a predefined group of names already recorded!....C'mon! You can still have your creative names ....What I am imagining would not remove one stitch of this creative freedom that we have now....

What I am proposing is to add even more immersion into this wonderful. The whole audio feature would be something the player can simply toggle ON or OFF as easy as they can toggle ON or OFF Bullpen Warmups before a game....Everyone is different and enjoys different things. However, I really think the addition of this feature would truly take this game to the next level of bliss

Yes but it still takes valuable development time and money to implement. Anything more than the few noises that were in Strat would be a valuable waste of resources better spent on improving the AI.

Besides, I don't think my stomach could last listening to the dry heave inducing sappy musings of Vin Scully.

It's an interesting proposition, to be sure. To be honest though, I'd also rather see the development time into the AI and user interface (particularly the league leaders section). Also, there's some financial things that would be neat to see (arbitration, incentives, signing bonuses, etc).

Also, I like the idea of downloading the latest version electronically. With all of the added audio, this would be practically impossible. Since it's a "one-pitch" sim, it also adds logistical problems. Finally, the cost of the voice "talent" is probably too prohibitive.

Of course, I'm not your target demographic. I'm more interested in the season (or career) as a whole. I don't sim very many individual games.

I agree. It's a step away from trying to perfect this game by adding ear candy. Heh, heh. Ear candy. I vote for trying to get this thing into a pitch by pitch mode first.

You know, I work in sports radio and I'd be more than happy to provide the play by play voice for free.

Well, not for free. I'd settle for a free copy of every game .400 studios releases.

and a six pack of Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager.

ooh.. and a cheeseburger. With mayo.

And fries.

I don't think that's asking too much, do you?

I play Baseball for Windows as well, and do in fact enjoy it. Saying that however, keep in mind that an average game in BBW takes well over an hour to play. Now in BBW, I don't mind because it is a season replay only and I go to it only when I have the spare time...but for a career league, you need the speed of OOTP...If you end up simming alot of games anyway (for me it's 55% played 45% sim), you wont be using the sound alot anyway. I would never get through a decent career in OOTP if a single game took as long as BBW.

Doh! Not fries! Everyone knows fries are too valuable to be wasted on announcers!

Damn...and you were so close.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

My suggestions (short list) for things to be worked on before sound.

1 Trading AI
2 Continued interface improvement
3 Minor league stats saved for AT LEAST the past two seasons
4 Waiver rules, 40 man roster
5 More stats (and sortable reports)
6 No more pitcher roles so the AI can put the best guy in a situation. No more CL with 3 ERA pitching before a MR with a 6 ERA
7 Career playoff and all star stats tracked
8 Player history to include who he was traded for, not just the team

Basically IMHO, this game needs a pic of my naked a$$ on the box before it needs sound. Take it with a boulder of salt, I'm Canadian

Cheers

Rich

It's ironic, but if you play a game of BBW only once or twice a week, it doesn't get old at all....BUT you are 100% right; if you were to play many games in a day, as we do with OOTP, then your patience would be challenged, especially when Ernie delivers one of his 3 minute descriptive strings before a single pitch is thrown.

J P Falcon I never played BBW so I cant really judge the play by play In that game. But In all the other sports games I've played they seem to get old real fast.

It's a great idea but for me I'd just like OOTP's AI manager to get a clue and learn how to manage during a game.

Speaking of getting old fast anyone else getting tired of the foul ball feature? I wish I could turn it off myself after managing a few 100 games...

Nope. I've managed about 120 games, and I still really like it. It makes games a little longer to play, but I think it really adds to the realism and often drama of the games.

I've got to agree with most and say that there are other things to add first. Although, I'm not one of those who thinks it wouldn't be cool. I'm going to have to vote a big NO for any pics of Soxwin's booty though

If you are referring to Triple Play and High Heat, I can understand you saying that since the phrases do become quite repetitive after a few games. But in all honesty BBW seems to have a larger speech data base to work from and while there are your fair share of repetitive phrases, I'm always hearing new comments as I continue to play the game. Mind you, as I mentioned, I only play a couple of games a week so perhaps that helps keep it fresh.

J P Falcon see theres the problem both ways....I'm asumeing It will be as bad as the games you mentioned and your asumeing It will be as good as BBW. theres no way to know how good or bad it will be.
