BSL - Three Openings... there's something for everyone
BSL has three openings! All three are in the AL East. They are Baltimore, New York, and Toronto. They all have made significant strides since the beginning (2005) of BSL in trying to topple the powerhouse Boston Red Sox. Currently in July of 2009...
The Orioles struggled through mediocrity for four straight years before undergoing a massive overhaul in the offseason. A much improved team with probably the best 1-4 (v. RHP) in the league, the Orioles should be in second place according to their pythagorean record, but rest in last place. The Orioles offense is solid, the starting pitching is above average, and the bullpen needs to get tighter. An up and coming team with a stud on the way (and currently mop up reliever in the majors due to being a Rule 5 pick) to be their ace starter. Only the right person will be selected to take over this team, because we need to ensure they're placed in the right hands. Toronto, the 2007 AL East champs spent big this offseason to try to beat the Red Sox, and everyone thought they would succeed. Unfortunately, the upstart Yankees are stealing the headlines so far, and the Blue Jays are realizing their lack of depth has hurt them. After taking a few steps to correct that depth last sim, the Blue Jays are primed to make their voices heard over the rest of the season. Bullpen woes have contributed to their ineffectiveness, but their rotation is one of these that can't be beat, and the offense is surprisingly balanced. The Yankees fell under the weight of their massive contracts to aging players and were the laughingstock of BSL for two years. However, 2009 changed all of that. The GM pronounced that the team would finish at .500 for the first time in a long time, but no one could expect they'd be only a game back of the Red Sox this late into the season. They're far from a perfect team, but there is finally light at the end of the tunnell, as the Yankees finally dig themselves out of their financial hole and their two remaining sinkholes have contracts expiring at the end of the season. With young players already seasoned in playing in New York, and money becoming available, this is a team that can rise to the top again. All four teams make the AL East one of, if not the, most competitive divisions in BSL. If you want to compete, this is the division for you. Each team brings its challenges - Baltimore in trying to build up the team, New York in trying to find the pieces to sustain the team, and Toronto to take it's vaunted team all the way.
