I'd been planning on rooting for the Steelers today, but Joey Porter just changed my mind.

Just watching the coverage of his taking umbrage with Jerramy Stevens's comment. I enjoy a good trash talking confrontation, but jeez... he's pulling out a howitzer to deal with a squirt gun. It's just embarassing.

Maybe it is because im such a homer but I like when Joey starts trash talking. Gets me fired up to watch the game. Not saying he is correct in the things he says but still like it.

Do you guys like when a player from your favorite team talks or would you just rather have them keep their mouth shut and play the game?

Great article for numbers folks. Football numbers and trends have come a long way... I salute that aspect of the game and those that REALLY understand the game. Football Outsiders are some of those people. Good stuff here...

I have nothing to base this opinion on but the fact that I am making a guess.

It could turn out the other way around, for all I know.

What was so mind-changing about what Porter said?

"It's a heartwarming story and all that, but it will be a sad day when he leaves without that trophy," said Stevens, who said later he wasn't guaranteeing a victory but was only saying what he felt.

Stevens also said Porter will have a difficult time whenever he is matched up with Seahawks All-Pro tackle Walter Jones.

"He had a huge game in the AFC championship game coming off the edge on the blitz," Stevens said of Porter. "I don't think he is going to have such an easy day against Walt, though."

"You look for the guys that say something that aren't supposed to say nothing, and I feel like he definitely was out of pocket to say what he said," Porter said. "I'm going to make sure he owns up to those words."

Porter also called Stevens "a first-round bust who barely made some plays this season." He also said a player of Stevens' stature "has a lot of nerve" to say what he said about Bettis.

"I do what I have do to get myself going and he likes to see me going," Porter said. "He knows once I get going, he knows what kind of player he's going to get. That's going to make me play at a high level."
Steelers players also were cautioned before the Super Bowl about not saying anything that the Seahawks could use for motivation, but Porter didn't seem to care.

"When a guy says something who lines up in front of me on every play, I have to like that," Porter said. "He has to see me. There's no way he can hide from me. We have to meet — over and over and over. . . . I'll remind him every time I put him on his back."
Porter didn't say anything more substantial or vulgar than Stevens, so how can you look at Porter's comments with a browed eye and brush over Stevens'?

The only reason I can think is because Porter has a history of spouting off at the mouth, and so he's easily perceived as a "bad guy" or "trouble maker". But look at the quotes. Stevens was the one who drew first blood and called out Porter claiming he'd have a tough time against Walter Jones. So what's so wrong with Porter defending himself?

Sorry, I just don't understand your point of view here.

Good call using Tom Brady for a coin flip. Remember that kid last year? Kid choked on it. Poor planning on somebody's part.
