Anyone play Strat-O-Matic card and dice?

I've wanted to get in a league for years. Just don't know enough people who play? Anyone at all interested? I know that in this day of computer games (um...OOTP) very few players like tossing the dice and keeping score by hand, but I still love it. I would love to recreate the 2005 season.

I use to play it a few years ago with Spoor and a couple other people. Great game that led us directly to forming the Maelstrom.

Really? Think there's any interest in a league?

Honestly once I picked up STB2K3 I never played another game of S-O-M. I used to replay the '85 season. I have something like 16 years of data saved at my parent's house. Blame this place for me not joining.

I used to have 7 other guys who would play in a league, we'd draft teams for 50$ and the two league winners would split the pot with the WS champ getting the 65-35 split.

We would meet every Tuesday night and play a round of games. It was fun. But that was out in Colorado and I haven't been able to get any interest in it here in Louisville.

I still have my nearly worn out set of 1985 Strat cards. Played the dice game from '84 to '96. Ah, the good ol' days.

Nice. As I recall Pedro Guerrero was my HR king with 53. Thad Bosely hit .390 1 year and had 150 RBI to lead in both categories.

My favorite card was Ken Phelps. 5 auto HRs, 1 1-9 split and the 3 column was mostly walks. Everything else was pretty much a strikeout.

I liked Pittsburgh's Mike Brown. His card was loaded with doubles.

Analyzing Strat cards taught me a bunch about probability back when I was a kid. I remember sitting down and figuring out that there were 216 die roll possibilities, and that rolling a 1-7 was six times as likely as rolling a 1-12, and all that.

My friends and I used to write down the likelihoods of various things happening for each player for comparisons.

Those were the days.

I haven't played since the mid-late 90s, though. Not since discovering Baseball Mogul and then OOTP.

I did something similar but even calculated the odds (with help from my TRS-80) for every situation and every player in that situation. It showed me some gems like Lee Lacy. He couldn't start every day but through my study, I found out that he hit close to .500 with the bases loaded. So I kept him close at side and as soon as the bases were loaded (if they ever got loaded), in would come Lee to pinch hit regardless of who was at bat (he was by far the best on my team in that situation). He ended up with some really bizarre stats. Not many At Bats, but he hit .500 with over twice as many RBI as he had hits.

Best Strat card ever was the last set I bought. Rudy Pemberton, 1996 Red Sox. In 41 AB's, he hit .512 with 8 doubles and a HR. We played in a league where guys couldn't have more than 110% of their actual plate appearances. I kept Rudy around as a pinch hitter extraordinaire. He was the guy that you put up to bat with the game on the line (and little chance of a IBB). Classic. His card was one big double.

I had such high hopes for Rudy as an actual player. Amazing how many cult favorites I have from games and video games.

To this day, I remember that boxcars are a 2.78% chance, and with a split card, you can divide that down to a .139% chance of occurence. Therefore, each single occurence out of 700 PA's can be modelled.

Long ago, I took hundreds of all-time players, and converted their statistics into a base-1000 format, and used three different colored 10-sided dice to determine the outcome. Worked exceptionally well.

I know...I didn't want to seem like a jerk and say "already knew about that..."

I was hoping to get a league together with folks I "know."
