New to the scene: could use some help
I just purchased the Title Bout CB and love it. The thing I would like to do is to play the majority of the bouts with the computer but play some with the board game. The thing is, some of the ratings just don't seem in line with the ratings on the cards. Such as, hitting power. And I see no rating for TKO. The question I have is, are these ratings of the boxers in the computer game going to give me a more realistic result. I have a templet for creating cards, so I am just curious.
Thanks, David |

Some Thoughts about the Differences
David UT,
I have been a fan of the Title Bout board game from Avalon Hill and the more recent computer iterations for going on to about three decades now and I'm sure you will agree the computer version is easier and quicker, plus there are many more fighters and other useful aids, such as record-keeping, cornermen, in-fight strategy, etc. -- it sure beats dividing the 80 ring action cards into two sets of 40 and then flipping them. In response to your questions, the TKO rating on the cards is still there -- I think in the computer game it is now called "absorb punishment." Other ratings have been changed and added, for example now there is just one cut rating (for the fighter's propensity to cut, without regard to who is opponent is). As to the variations between some of the ratings, not sure I can respond without some specific examples, but one possibility is that the card you are looking at may represent a rating at a particular point in time versus a career rating, which at least is the case for most of the retired fighters. It's possible some of the items like hitting power may have been fine-tuned as well, not sure ... To respond to your general inquiry, my guess is the newer computer iteration has got to be the most accurate yet, by virtue of the fact that you can test the ratings by repeated encounters (i.e. 1000 fights) between the same two fighters. Be interested to hear responses from others on the points raised in your posts, though. |

You make a good point as far as maybe at a point in ones career. Thanks for responding so quickly JC. I do look forward to other responses.
