Tigers available in GABL (1982 Historic)
The Detroit Tigers are available in GABL (www.goldenageofbaseball.com), an OOTP5 league that began more than a year ago in the year 1977 and has now completed it's 5th full season. We sim 3 times/week on M/W/F on a 7/8/7 schedule. We use CATO to track the league's history and it has been a very active league with mature GM's. We are a little different than other historic leagues in that we create and import amatuers/rookies in the year they were drafted rather than the year they appeared in the major leagues, meaning our amateurs actually need some seasoning before they are ready for the bigs. Now a capsule about each team:
Detroit Tigers-One of GABL's most dominant teams compiling a 511-299 record in 5 seasons, having won 98, 106, 108 and 113 games in the last 4 years. 2 time defending AL East Champion, won the AL Pennant in 1980, losing to the Montreal Expos in the World Series. Have fought it out with the Red Sox every year in the AL East except for our first season, when the Yankees dominated the East. The Tigers are a team in transition, as some of the stars of their great teams are leaving via FA, and Dave Rozema, one of the Tigers top pitchers, and FA to be, was traded. However, the Tigers have a good bit of youth that has already started to play that should combine with what they have coming back to most likely make them the AL East favorites once again. Some of the big names on their team are closer Bruce Sutter, GABL's most dominant closer since inception (4 years left on contract), Mark "The Bird" Fidrych whose only 27 and has been a very consistent winner for the Tigers (5 years left) 24 year old 2B-Lou Whitaker who has great ratings, 23 year old SS Alan Trammell who is still in his arb years, 24 year old catcher Tony Pena who just hit .324 as a rookie and will most likely win the AL ROY, Wayne Garland, a 3 time 20 game winner. Their minor league system isn't really highly rated as most of their top youngsters are already in the majors, but they do have Bob Tewksbury and Greg Brock both in their system. We just completed the 1981 World Series and I will wait to turn the file until Tue or Wed so you can get extension offers in if you like. Once I flip the file, we'll start on offseason FA and as soon as the rookies are imported, the 1982 amatuer draft. It's a deep class with such names as Jose Canseco, Alvin Davis, Kal Daniels, Cecil Fielder, Kirby Puckett, Shawon Dunston, Mike Greenwell, Vince Coleman, Terry Pendleton, Bret Saberhagen, Dwight Gooden, David Wells, Jimmy Key, Kenny Rogers, Danny Jackson, Tom Browning, Randy Myers, Todd Worrell, Mitch Williams and Roger McDowell just to name a few.
