AI takes over from human control during game

I have been playing OOTP3 and now OOTP4 for about a year. Recently the AI has taken over game decisions late in a game, around the 8th inning. I sim half inning or inning at a time until a team score 3 or more runs in an inning, then I play each batter until I'm sure the pitcher has settled down and will not be blasted again. The AI lets a pitcher give up too many runs before it takes them out.... sometimes 8-9 runs over 2-3 innings...before it makes a change. I used to have complete games where a pitcher would give 10 runs. Steve told me to set the Manager Tendency to "Quick Hook" and it should help. Since then, it has been better, but not as good as I would like. I also made some changes in the ERA Settings, too.

All my teams are set to HUMAN CONTROL. At the beginning of the game I leave all the Offense, Defense, Base Running and Substitions under HUMAN CONTROL. What could cause this to change during a game? It has happened at least one game out of the ten I play on each day's schedule for the last 3 days.

I have Version 4.2 installed.

Please advise.

I don't play the game in PBP mode, but I know that if you set it to sim an inning then you have given up human control of the teams - then it's just like having all settings to AI control for that inning.

The concern then would be that the AI allows pitchers to stay in games for too long: I have not seen this problem very often but I'd guess the solution (besides setting hook to 'very quick') would be to check your league totals - maybe there is just far too much offense generated in your league. Also, maybe when you are in PBP mode the AI GM settings you give the game are ignored since the game will assume you want to actually play in PBP mode. If you sim a week outside of PBP mode do you get the same problem with pitchers left in too long? If no then I would guess this is related to PBP mode. Maybe folks who play the game in PBP mode could share some of their thoughts on this issue as well.
