Meant to mention this, the old version was done by hand as a kind of see what it looks like thing. The new version was actually made by the utility and that is as far as I've gotten in updating the code. So fielding, post-season, leaderboards, ect. will be there, I just haven't gotten that far yet.

That's also the reason his minor league stats disappeared. When done by hand, I changed 1990 to AAA just to see what it looked like. The minor league color is a slightly darker shade of the presim color.

The New new look is much better and easier on the eyes, than the first new look.

I like both versions a lot, but if the nutscapers () can read the 2nd one better then that would be my fave new look.

I use both IE 6.0 and Netscape 7.0 and the font is about half the size in Netscape. Just wanted to bring this to your attention, I am not sure if there is anything you can do about this.

Thanks

New look doesnt seem to have problems with Netscape/Mozilla. Great job Cato, thank you mucho.

Okay, I've got the player pages done and I think they look pretty good. But, one potential problem I see is that the pages take up about 2.5 times the amount of disk space as the bb-ref style. Since the player pages are the vast majority of the web site, the web site is going to be about 2.5 times bigger. My GMC league (only 7 years), for instance, would go from about 50MB to about 125MB for full output. That seems like a lot to me. Any thoughts? Is this problem?

hmm. +/- a gig every 56 seasons? that would certainly tax my old 20GB drive, but assuming much of the OOTP-playing crowd buys computers more than 1 per 5 years, it probably won't bother many people.

however, i'd clear the space on my drive if i had to. this utility is that important to my league.

[edit: on 2nd thought, this will make backing up a bit more difficult, won't it.]

Uploading will take some time also. The plus side is that it will only be once a season.

That's pretty big... But it certainly wouldn't deter me. All those details come with a price, but it's a price worth paying

Love the modified page. Looks great in Mozilla!

Cato,

I fiddled around with the test page. Found a few things that helped to shorten the html page.

1) The CSS style is embedded in the page. Wasn't it kept in a separate document in the original utility?

2) Noticed in the code you have tr class="xxxxx" and on the next several lines td class ="xxxxx". I deleted out all of the classes that followed td when there was an identical class with the tr.

3) The only sections I couldn't fix easily were where tr class="xxxxx" but td class="yyyyy". The only way I saw how to fix these involves adding additional lines to the CSS style. Combined the ".oddline", ".evenline", and ".totalline" with ".stats", ".presim", etc. to make ".oddlinestats", ".evenlinestats", etc. I then changed tr class="xxxxx" to tr class="xxxxxyyyyy" and deleted all of the class="yyyyy". Couldn't eliminate where class="line" though as the horizontal line wouldn't show.

After fiddling around with the test page, I was able to get it down from 37kb to 22 kb. Cut more than 1/3 off of its size.

If you want, I can send you a copy of the revised test page and the CSS file if you need to see exactly what I changed.

Mark

p.s. Shortened the file to 18kb by deleting all of the "/td & "/tr". It's sloppy code and causes some problems on some browsers but shortened the file even more.

Mark -

Great, I'd love to take a look at what you did. The CSS style was embedded in the page so that you could do exactly what you did. The program will still create a separate stylesheet.

Removing all the classes on the td tags is a good idea. It decreases the customizability a little, but I think the reduction in file size is more important. I don't really understand why the border style doesn't work with a tr tag, anyway. Table rows have borders just like table details.

Don't think I'd want to remove the end tags, though. Might cause too many problems.

Cato,

Is the new look utility likely to increase the time taken to create the pages? (I've just ran 1913 in a MLB replay and it took five and a half hours)

Cheers

OK in Opera 6.05.
In Mozilla 1.2 I see fonts smaller than in IE6.

The CSS file could be set up to be browser smart and load a different CSS file depending on the browser type (ESPN used to do this, still may). As long as the CSS info is not embedded in the page this would not add much space at all. As Mark says, the CSS info can just be called straight from the CSS file, it does not need to be embedded. Good luck Jeff!

The new layout will not increase the time to run, just the size of the website. I have made some changes along the lines of what Mark suggested and it looks like it will now be less than twice as big as before, instead 2.5 times.

And, the CSS file wil not be embedded in each page. The test page was done look that for simplicity only. The css file will still be created in the root directory of the website and referenced by each page.
