BDBL: New 24 Team Fictional League

**League requires the most recent OOTP6.5 patch
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this league is not intended for use of major cities. I'd prefer smaller cities in the United States, as New York, Boston, Los Angeles can get a bit old after a while

Blue Diamond Baseball League (BDBL) is opening applications for interested parties. BDBL is a 24 team fictional OOTP league. Owners are able to select the city/nickname/logo/ballpark for their organization.

The league will start with two seperate drafts on the message board, a ten round gold-star player draft, and a five round blue star player draft (prospects). Computer will simulate the rest of the draft, finalizing your 60 man roster. A lottery will be drawn, with owners being allowed to select if they will draft first in the gold star draft, or first in the blue star player draft. If you select first in the gold star draft, you will draft last in the blue star player draft, and vice versa. You have the option of selecting which side of the spectrum you would like to register for. There will be a serpentine order for every other round.

The next post will contain the constitution, which explains in complete detail what the league is about. It mentions our intentions of a fabulous All-Star week, and has every rule that needs to be addressed in it. I'd also like to point out that I have a few friends from work who will work as non-biased, undercover journalists for the league. They will contact owners from time to time for interviews, and may/may not write articles about your team and its current happenings. The purpose of their work will be to provide you, and hopefully jump start, with a plethora of articles. Please read the entire constitution before joining. I do not want to do a first come first serve application process, so please be patient with my handlings. I promise to get back to you within 24 hours.

As of right now, I am waiting for my domain name to resolve, but in the meantime I will post a screenshot of a few graphics, with the constitution in the next post:

Over these next few days while the domain name resolves and is posted, I will take applications and spend time making the appropriate/required graphics for your team if you are accepted. As an owner of the team, you can either choose one of our twenty pre-generated team logos/locations, or create your own and provide a logo of your own. The logo must have a colored background.

If interested in this promising project, please email me/PM me. My email is turner1997ts AT yahoo DOT com. In your original application, I'd just like to hear a sentence or two about yourself and why you want to join. I may/may not have follow up questions, so please make sure you check your email. Also, we will require all member contact to be through PM, via the league message board. This will be done to get the owners in the habbit of checking up on message board happenings, rather than checking email. So if you are looking for a fun time, and have always wanted to build a team from scratch, please give me a holler. G'day!

Thank you to Simms of the wonderful FOBL (http://thefobl.com) for the idea of the web design.

Constitution

BDBL Constitution & Rules

We the People of the Blue Diamond Baseball League (BDBL), in order to form a perfect league of imagination and intangible memories, insure to put our best foot forward, provide our energy and integrity, promote our ballclubs, and secure our foundation in this league, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Blue Diamond Baseball League.

Article I. Duties of the Commissioner

Section I. Commissioner Basics
The Commissioner, to put it briefly, is here to cultivate the foundation that the league is made upon. All league processes must go through the Commissioner, but are not to be destined upon by the Commissioner's opinions. The Commissioner is here to make sure rules are followed, not dictated. The democratic process of the league will allow all voices to be heard.

Simulations will be run through the Commissioner, and the Commissioner agrees to have zero interference with the process. Any manual alteration of league results will lead to an immediate relief of his duties. The Commissioner will also be held responsible for maintaining activity throughout the league, by monitoring league exportation, updating of league info, and creating a schedule and thereby informing all league owners of league activity dates and times.

Section II. Removal of League Commissioner
At any point, if any league member feels the Commissioner is not putting his best foot forward, he may call upon a motion to elect a new Commissioner, with the Commissioner being delegated to an owner role only. A second league member must second the motion, and then a league voting procedure shall take place. Two-thirds league vote is required to unseat the Commissioner, and a new Commissioner must be voted in upon by two-thirds league vote.

Article II. Duties of the Owners

Section I. Owner Basics
An organization can only go as far as its members take it. All owners who take part in BDBL, are required to be as active as possible throughout their seasons in the league. Participation is defined as the act of taking part or sharing in something. All league issues/procedures/events must be participated in at full effort, unless notification of absense is presented to the Commissioner. Exporting lineups and posting on the message board are the main points of participation.

Section II. Inactive Owners
Owners who have not participated in any league events for a full ten days in real life time will be motioned for league removal. The league will then proceed to vote on removal or acceptance of the owner at hand. The Commissioner will always outline the details of expulsion, and if need be, the Owner may provide a statement requesting his asserting position in the league. Two-thirds league vote is required to keep/remove the owner from the league. No owner may be removed from the league solely on the Commissioner's word.

Section III. League Openings
Whenever a spot opens up in BDBL, the spot must remain open for at least twenty-four hours, with complete notification available to all those interested on the waiting list. If the waiting list is empty, or if twenty-four hours pass, an advertisement/word of mouth situation may be used.

All interested owners must agree to the terms of the Constitution & Rules before being allowed to join the league.

Article III. Franchise Organization

Section I. Organization of Franchises
The league will consist of two leagues, six divisions, containing four teams held in each division. All division winners and one wild card winner from each league will be granted playoff eligibility. League structure is based on the following:

Northern Conference
I. Northeast Division
II. Great Lakes Division
III. Pacific Division

Southern Conference
I. Southeast Division
II. Great Plains Division
III. Pacific Division

Section II. New Organizations
Upon acceptance into BDBL, the organization process of your franchise will begin. The first terms of duty is to assign a location and nickname to your franchise. Franchise location must be approved by the Commissioner, with locations being relative to divisional placement.

Upon acceptance of location, owners must provide a pictorial image to represent their team. All logos must be approved by league Commissioner. Lastly, the creation of a ballpark must be cultivated, within boundaries permitted by the league.

Article IV. League Simulations

Section I. Schedule
The Commissioner will run three weekly simulations, accumulating to one month of the season schedule. All league simulations will have at least 48 hour notifications for league owners. Per Commissioner duties, all simulations must be completed on time. A complete season schedule shall be created prior to the season, with cognizance that the schedule is malleable, and therefore can change with proper notification. Simulations may or may not be conducted in the league chatroom.

Section II. League Exporting/Uploading
All league owners are required to export for every simulation that is occured, including off-season activities. All league files shall be updated post-simulation, giving owners enough time to handle league operations in time for the next simulation.

If an owner will not be exporting for a particular simulation, written notification must be sent to the Commissioner. If no written notification is sent, a reprimand will be sent to the owner. An owner is only allowed to accumulate three reprimand's in one season.

Section III. All-Star Week
Approximately, occuring at the midsection of a simulated season, an All-Star festivities week will occur. The festivities kick off with owner balloting, promoting players to participate in league activities. Activities will consist, but may not be limited to, the following:
  • All-Star Game
  • Simulated Homerun Derby
  • Future's Game
  • Owner's Challenge

Section IV. All-Star Game
The league All-Star game will consist of players nominated to play in the game by league owners. Every single team will have a representative in the All-Star game. Owners will elect the starters of the game, with the team in each respected conference that has the best overall winning percentage at the time of the game naming the reserves, and the option of managing the game. If the selected owner decides to turn down the management opportunity, the team with the next best winning percentage will be given the option. The All-Star game will be simulated live in the league chatroom.

The location of the All-Star game will alternate between each conference every season, with a selected organization hosting the All-Star game. A portion of the revenue will be rewarded to the hosting organization, as long as the organization provides media coverage. Media coverage is defined as the posting of an article on the league message board with acknowledgements about the upcoming game.

Section V. Simulated Homerun Derby
The top four homerun hitters in each conference will be selected to participate in the Homerun Derby. The Homerun Derby will consist of simulated results, based on ballpark dimensions and ratings. The organization of the winning player shall recieve a one million dollar cash bonus for his achievement in the homerun derby.

Section VI. Future's Game
Prior to every All-Star game, there will be a future's game consisting of the best AAA/AA players under the age of 26. Players who are expected to make a soon appearance in the big leagues will be nominated by team owners. Every owner who posts three articles prior to the All-Star break will have a representitive in the game. The MVP of the game will recieve a one time talent bump in any category of the owners' discretion.

Section VII. Owner's Challenge
In an attempt to provide more knowledge about league activities, the Owner's Challenge will be presented every All-Star break. Every owner of an organization will provide three random frivolities about their team, which will then be compiled into a twenty question test. The owner who achieves the highest score on the test will recieve a fan interest bump to their organization.

Section VIII. Playoffs
The playoffs will be simulated live in the league chatroom. Four teams from each conference will make the playoffs, with the team having the better record recieving homefield advantage. Wildcard winners will never recieve homefield advantage, unless playing a weaker wildcard team in the championship. The team with the better pythagorean record difference will earn homefield during the Championship.

Article V. League Rules

Section I. Basic Rules
There will be no designated-hitter in the BDBL. Coaches and scouts will also not be included in the league. A salary cap of 90 million will be set prior to the inaugural season, with league voting to determine an increase/decrease prior to every season. There will also be a salary basement cap, set to 30 million prior to every season. Teams may not violate either cap at all times, and if a team does violate the cap, they will recieve appropriate punishment. Each team will also have a 50 million dollar cash maximum.

League ratings will be set, and locked, to the 1-10 scale. Talent ratings will be based on a 1-5 scale. All real life MLB rules (Rule V, MLB option years, etc.) will be enabled to promote accurate roster moves.

Teams may player in any position they are rated for. A team is expected to update a player's primary position if it needs to be updated, to upkeep league accuracy. Foreign players may not enter the league, while retired players may make a comeback.

Section II. Free Agency
In season free agency is determined by a first come, first serve process. All free agent bids must be made on the official league forum. A team must designate all free agents to a certain level of play when they sign a player.

Off-season free agency will be done in game, and will be based on the game mechanics. Five, six-day simulations will occur during this period, to complete the thirty day process.

Section III. Trading
Trading to improve the direction of your team will be encouraged. Draft picks/cash may be traded. Only current season draft picks may be traded. The trade deadline is July, 31st, in game.

All trades are finalized once both owners post the trade on the official message board.

A signed free agent (in-season or off-season) may not be traded until 50 simulated days occur.

Section IV. Amateur Draft
A seven round Amateur Draft will occur every off-season. The amateur draft will consist of four human drafted rounds, followed by three CPU simulated rounds. The four worst teams in the league (two from each conference) will be placed into a random pull drawing to see who gets what pick in the draft. The team with the worse record will have a more probable chance of landing a better selection. The remaining twenty teams will draft based on win percentage.

Article VI. Ammendments

Ammendments to the constitution may be motioned by a league owner, and then a second motion is required to put the option to a vote. Once motioned, two-thirds vote is required to ammend the constitution.

Looks like you have a promising fictional league here. Good set of rules...the all-star festivities are a nice touch as well.

Thanks. A couple of great owners have already applied, so I like the direction we are going.

Just a nightly bump. We have five owners who are creating franchises as we speak, and without naming names/leagues, they are an extremely impressive group of guys. I can tell the direction of this league is only going to go up, and if you'd like to jump on board shoot me an email. We will be looking at starting the draft roughly a day or two after Christmas.

The website will be up sometime this (Fri-Sun) weekend, though I can't guarentee a set date at the moment.

EDIT: I have ammended part of the constitution that mentions replacement organizations. After thought, I figured simply replacing an organization will ruin the foundation of the league. In order to relocate a franchise, you will have to go through a thorough process.

This looks really promising. No wonder you'll fill this league quickly. Goodluck.

EDIT -- Well, give it time really. It's the time of the year where not everyone is here, so don't worry about the applications if they are only a few.

nope, apart from a couple of e-mails about 2 weeks ago. In the first one he was very enthusiastic, but in the second one he was pretty discouraged with the interest level, so I am guessing that is when he decided to turf the league.

This league looked like it was going to be really good and it seems from the replies on this thread that there was significant interest in a league of this type. I know I've been looking for a good fictional league for about a month now. I think a lot of players would love to see an upstart fictional league that is as well organzied and setup as this one was on track to be.

If anyone has been thinking of starting a league like this, go for it. Obviously the interest is there. I would be thr first to join and it looks like there would be many others interested as well!
