For those of you who have not read the latest blog, here are the results of some tests I ran
For those who have read it, I added two more scenarios, so the results should be interesting nontheless.I have a Athlon64 4000+ CPU, a gig of RAM, and a Raid-0 HD system. So it's a fast system. ![]() Test 1: OOTP 6.5 League, modern MLB setup, including simulating minor league games Number of Games: ~ 6000 Number of Players: ~ 2000 (I did not fill the minors) Number of Teams: 30 (120 when you count the virtual minor league teams) Number of Leagues: 1 Test includes: Writing boxscores for ~2200 MLB games Simulating full season, stop before playoffs Result Test 1: 9 Minutes, 7 Seconds Test 2: OOTP BM 2006 world, modern MLB setup with 16 minor leagues, including simulating all minor league games Number of Games: ~ 11500 Number of Players: ~ 8800 (does include hidden players) Number of Teams: 210 Number of Leagues: 17 Test includes: Inaugural fantasy draft Simulating full season, stop before playoffs (although because of the shorter minor league schedules, all minor league leagues had their playoffs simulated) Writing boxscores for ~2200 MLB games June amateur draft Result Test 2: 2 Minutes, 15 Seconds (The time varies from the one posted in the blog because Andreas optimized the writing of the boxscores. Test 3: OOTP BM 2006 world, modern MLB setup with 16 minor leagues, including simulating all minor league games Number of Games: ~ 11500 Number of Players: ~ 8800 (does include hidden players) Number of Teams: 210 Number of Leagues: 17 Test includes: Inaugural fantasy draft Simulating full season, stop before playoffs (although because of the shorter minor league schedules, all minor league leagues had their playoffs simulated) Writing boxscores for all 11500 Games June amateur draft Result Test 3: 4 Minutes, 22 Seconds Test 4: OOTP BM 2006 world, fictional setup, 24 team league, with 5 minor leagues attached with 24 teams each. Number of Games: ~ 7900 Number of Players: ~ 6700 (does include hidden players) Number of Teams: 144 Number of Leagues: 6 Test includes: Writing boxscores for all 7900 Games June Amateur draft Simulating full season, stop before playoffs (although because of the shorter minor league schedules, all minor league leagues had their playoffs simulated) Result Test 4: 2 Minutes, 19 Seconds Please keep in mind that it is important to view minor leagues in OOTP BM 2006 almost the same as a league in OOTP 6, because they have awards, an allstar game, playoffs, reports, news, boxscores etc. Of course, there is still stuff missing in OOTP BM 2006 so far (i.e. trading AI), but on the other hand the engine is not speed-optimized yet. So I expect the times to stay in the same ballpark.

Maybe I missed something very basic but what's a "hidden player?"

Depending on the baseball quality of a country, each has a number of hidden players than can be discovered by your scouts. Of course, this is an option

And wow... the speed optimization is impressive! EDIT: I can already tell that I might just have to start my Outpost League dynasty over again. So many options are making it into OOTPBM that I wanted in order to run it the way I envisioned.

If the dealer gave as good a discount as I do, I'd be impressed

In return for that 20% discount, we're probably going to have to smuggle hard copies of the game across borders to some countries or something. That's gonna be an oddly shaped balloon...

In the past, this often wasn't the case (for many years there were 24 AAA teams and only 16 MLB teams), and even today it's not the case for the Short Season A and Rookie classifications, where there are fewer clubs than in the parent MLB. |

Oh come on, the anticipation is fun!
And if you keep telling yourself that, maybe you'll believe it.

If you want, I'd be happy to beta test OOTP:BM on my crappy old laptop.
You know, for compatability and minimum requirements purposes. Nudge nudge! ![]()
