Does this game get under anyone's skin besides me? Does anyone curse out loud through some of these games? Losing is part of this game and without it I wouldn't play it. But man i get pissed when I lose a 3-0 lead in a playoff series or can't hold an 8 run lead in the 8th inning. Another thing that makes me mad beyond comprehention is when these stupid players complain about playing time. Well maybe if you didn't blow the last 4 saves you'd get in more often. but I can't say that to a computer player. I think OOTP5 should have the option to email the idiot back!! I just recently lost a 15-4 lead in the 9th inning. The opposing team scored 11 runs. I brought every pitcher I had into the game and they kept hitting. Thank God my wife wasn't home. If not for my cathcer hitting a 2 out home run in the bottom of the ninth I think I would have broke my monitor. Oh and by the way my catcher has a 3 in average but bats .371 for the season......he's one of my best hitters, and he does not hit for power either. He;s currently 3rd in best average for the league. Explain that!

It would help if you were a Cub fan. I used to get really upset when I was losing giant leads in the eigth or ninth. After watching the Cubs last season, I started to get used to it.

I would just like to say that I think it is bullcrap that we cannot email players back. I have a few things I would like to say to a couple of players.

I actually hold grudges against certain players and have even been known to sign a guy to a long contract and keep him in the minors, even if he's pretty good, just because he has smited me. It's nice to play god in the computer world when you can't in real life.

I die laughing when an incredibly average player opts for free agency because he says I didn't offer him enough money. Then he ends up signing a contract for something less then my original offer because he didn't realize how average he was! Hilarious. Enjoy that contract.

Jody Reed....
LOL, just kidding. Another thing I love to see is those average players who think they are worth half the payroll sign a contract for another club and end up hitting around the Mendoza line or with a 5+ ERA. Wooo, boy humility has been achieved. |

A little off topic, but it does relate to players that tick you off with unrealistic contract negotiations. I probably cut off my nose to spite my face, but I'm near the end of my tenth season fictional league and my center fielder (for the last two) reached a point where my offers "made him sick" and finally the "You had your chance" response.
He was my leadoff hitter, led both leagues in runs scored, the AL in stolen bases, had an average of .290 + but thought he was worth my first born during negotiations. Finally, I reached a point actually raising my voice aloud to the monitor. "Fine, go on the trading block and see if you can get a better contract when the year's out! In fact, I hope Minnesota picks you up so I have a chance to throw you OUT during the playoffs!" Ironically, during trading deadline Minnesota was indeed the one putting out the offer and I took it receiving a duration A middle reliever with a contract expiring in another two years. He even throws better than good stuff! It also gave me the opportunity to final promote to full time play a utility player that had given me the real 110% over the course of the last 6 years on my ML roster. Hope he proves himself to the point of being able to say, "Take that Swift! We're doing without you at half the price. In fact, your old locker makes me sick!" Oh well.... it's just a game. Yeah, right.

Did I forget to mention that I cannot win in the playoffs? My record in the playoffs after 15 seasons is a joke compared to regular season. I'v read that the AI doesn't cheat but teams I beat 11 games to 1 in the regular season easily sweep me in the playoffs. I am stretching it a bit but through 14 seasons I won 3 Championships. I only play 108 game seasons because i play most of the games. I never get swept in a season series or very rarely. But come playoff time it can be expected! BTW....do minors not develope as quickly in shorter seasons? And whats the easiest way to give teams more money to make up for a shorter season? Thanks for any help

Easiest way to give teams more money for a short season is to adjust the TV contracts.
You have less of a chance to gain the extra boost of playing time with the minors in a short season, but it shouldn't kill too much. The AI does not cheat during the postseason. What you may be seeing is that in the postseason you are guarenteed of only facing the best players from that team, whereas in the regular season you get to face the #5 starters, some backups, etc. Additionally in a short series if your players are on a cold streak it can really cripple you. 3 Championships in 14 years is really pretty successful in real life you'd be fairly highly regarded, you'd essentially be a MORE successful version of the Braves. |

I thought of that. The reason I lose in the playoffs. I wonder if I make the leahue a "4 man rotation" instead of 5 if it would be more competative during the regular season. And how would I edit the TV deals? I play 1/3 less of a season. Thanks for your help

coincidence or somethin more?
I use my beloved yankees ofcourse in my main league. I have others, that I run occassionaly. In my first two seasons, I won the World Series and I thought, "this is too easy." However, I was wrong. I won those championships in 2002 and 2003. I did not win my next championship till 2009. But I did something different prior during that offseason. I started to take leadership into account and piled my team up with leaders. I never ever get too many guys that hold the team together. I make sure to have about 2 or 3. Never more. But I love having guys that have "some ability" in terms of leadership. Following that formula, I went on to win 4 straight championships. My last championship, I was actually under .500 through the first two months of the season. I finished the year with the best record in the league. My streak was ended in 2013 ( I am in the process of simming the 2014 season). I lost to the Cardinals in 6 games. But to prove my formula further, prior to the 2013 season I lost two players with "some ability" in leadership and only made it up with one player. I don't know but leadership has played a huge role in making my team successful in the playoffs. You might wanna consider it Ragnar. |

i've heard that having too many leaders is a problem. and that makes sense.
i think i counted once and I had at most 9 leaders. 7 of them were starters, the other 2 were on the bench. Only 2 were "holds team together" as i said before. the rest were "some ability" I could just be gettin lucky, but everytime I needed a huge win my team pulled through. \ |

As long as we're all pissed off, I thought I'd add a few of my own.
I swear to God I can anticipate a homerun. Not for me, of course, but for my opponent. I don't know why I can, but I just get a feeling like "this goddamn computer's going to take me deep". So I pitch around and BOOM! That'll be a souvenir! Damn it, that pisses me off. Am I the only one who thinks the Pitch Around button is a little inside joke from Markus? It's like the Door Close button in an elevator. It doesn't do sh*t. And why, oh why, is there always a run scored in the first inning? I might score, or my opponent might score, but I can't get out of the first inning scoreless. I hate that. Thank you. Just venting.
