Perhaps, on the latter. BB Pro 2006 won't ship until February 28th.

I thought that seemed a little early for Prospectus...The handbook should hold me over that time, though.

Is there much writing in the Handbooks now or is it just reams of numbers? I looked at the first edition when it came out at the bookstore and it left me cold, for that very reason.

I honestly havn't gotten it in the last couple of years. Amazon was just running a discount for the books together, so I went ahead and grabbed them both.

So if you're not a huge baseball stat-head are these books worth checking out?

Well, they are both mostly statistical. However, if you play fantasy baseball, I would say they would be extremely valuable as they do have predictions for 2006.

If that were true of the Baseball Prospectus book, I wouldn't care much for it. There is loads of quality, humorous, insightful writing. The player profiles are a hoot to read. It's also a large attraction to Bill James Abstracts.

I got the Bill James Handbook 2006 like 2 weeks ago before a plane trip and I would say its ok. It just gives statistics; some are really random and some are informative. Its pretty organized though. I would give it a 6.5/10. Theres probably some books better out there.

I'm really looking foward towards the prospectus 2006 book though. Always like to see who is our next stars in the future.

Is there a friend of Bill's named Bruce that gets mentioned in each of the Bill James books?
