Furcal a Dodger: 3 Years, $40 Million
By Steve Henson, Times Staff Writer

Free agent Rafael Furcal has agreed in principle to a three-year contract with the Dodgers that would make him one of the highest paid shortstops ever, a source close to the negotiations said Saturday. The deal would guarantee Furcal, 28, nearly $40 million.

He is expected to take a physical Sunday and a news conference could be held in Dallas on Monday, the first day of baseball's winter meetings.
Article also states that LA is expected to sign Randa or Mueller to play third, and still looking for a power-hitting outfielder.

The Dodgers seem to think so.

Dodgers is willing to pay 3m more a season for a shorter contract, since it would be better covered by insurance. Insurance won't cover more than three years of contracts.

There were better places for them to spend this kind of money.

Spending 40 million especially in just 3 years is unbelievable bad both for the Dodger's clubhouse and our clubhouse at the same time. We can't get Furcal and now we have to continue our hunt for a SS or set Wilson Betemit as a SS which I don't think hes ready yet. Dodgers have just wasted a lot of money thats all I got to say.

30 more stolen bases and about 10 points of batting average upgrade at the position and a downgrade defensively.

Would it be a overall downgrade in the infield though?

If Izturis, Robles, and Furcal were to duplicate their 2005 performances in the upcoming season, this would add about 5 wins to the Dodgers victory column. Izturis is a lousy fooking hitter, Furcal is a good one. Izturis is a fine glove man, Furcal is equally good or better.

It's an overpay, but the Dodgers have picked up the premier FA on the market and limited their exposure to disaster to three years.

And, yeah, who the fook is pulling the string on these deals in LA?

And people killed DePodesta for the JD Drew signing. This one is worse than that.

One of the highest paid shortstops? Heck, the Yankees alone have two who are making way more than that.

I like Furcal. He is a young and the contract is only for three years. Still, I dont like the idea of moving Izturis to 2B and Kent to 1B. Seems they might be best off simply trading one of them.
