International Baseball Assocation

The International Baseball Association

Hello everyone! I am Cameron Satterwhite, here to give you a little information about the International Baseball Association. The IBA is a Player Sim League. The league uses OOTP5 as its sim engine. In this league, you create your own player, and you improve him by doing certain tasks. The first step to joining this league is to create your player.

To create your player, you simply go to the main page (www.freewebs.com/internationalbaseball), and click the ‘Join’ link. First, you need to give some information about yourself such as your AIM address, e-mail, name, age, ect. After that, you need to give us the vitals of your player. You need to decide a name, height, weight, birthplace, side he bats from (you can be a switch hitter), and hand he throws with. You also pick a position.

After you pick your position, you move on to the next part of the application. You are given 10 points to spread out any way you want for defensive rating, fielding percentage, stealing ability, throwing arm rating, running speed, sac bunt, and bunt for hit. You also get to pick what type of hitter you want to be (Normal, Spray, Pull). Also, in this part, if you chose to be a pitcher, you get five points to spread out over the following categories: Starter Duration, reliever duration, holding runners, and ground ball %. Ground Ball percentage is 20 % per point.

Now, after that, you move onto the next category. If you’re a batter, you get 20 points to spread out over hits (maxes at 10), doubles, triples, homeruns (2 points to raise 1 attribute point), walks, and avoiding strikeouts (maxes at 10). If you’re a pitcher, you can spread 20 points over avoiding hits, avoiding doubles, avoiding homeruns, avoiding walks, getting strikeouts, and velocity. Everything except Velocity and strikeouts maxes at 10. Once you finish filling out the form, click ‘Submit’ and you’re player will be put into the game as a free agent within a day or two.

After you’re application is put in, head over to the message board by going back to the main page and click ‘Message Board’. Go to the ‘New Players’ board and make a post in there telling everyone your name, position, etcetera, and let the offers come rolling in!

You’ll be receiving offers from 8 IBA teams. Those teams are the Texas Rounders, New York Dawgz (The Team I own), Calgary Rockhounds, Compton Assassins, Russia White Tigers, Warsaw Warriors, Great Britain Monarchy, and the Beijing Wu-Tang. You’ll probably receive IMs with offers from the owners of these teams, asking you to come play for their team. After you sign a contract with the team of your choice, the commish will move your player from the FA Pool to your team in the game and you’re ready to go and start updating. (You can start updating as soon as your player is created).

In order to improve your player, you do certain tasks. In the IBA, we call this updating your player. There are writing updates and non-writing updates. There’s no limit on how many updates you can do per week, but there is a limit of points you can put on your player in a week. That limit is 20 points. There are a few types of writing updates: Articles (0-5 point), Interviews (0-5), Biographies and Bio Updates (0-8/0-3), and Trash Talk (0-3). There are also a few types of non-writing updates: Around the Horn (1-4), Graphics (0-5), Trivia (0-5), and Website (0-8). You can only do each update once per week, but you can do as many updates as you want as long as you do not go over the 20 points. Once you do a particular update, you can add the points earned onto your player. This is how you would do that. You go to the Player Update board and create a new thread with your players name as the thread title. We’ll say you did an article and received 4 points.

Example:
John Doe
1B
Texas Rounders

4 points from article (Insert URL of your article here)

Add 4 points to Double versus RHP (however many it was+4)

Total points this week: 4

It takes two points to update one attribute point on homeruns.

The IBA has a sim every night unless there a circumstance where the commissioner cannot sim that night. He sims five games a night, and it’s a 120 game season. Two teams from each division make the playoffs. The Western Hemisphere consists of Texas, Calgary, New York, and Compton. The Eastern Hemisphere consists of Russia, Beijing, Great Britain, and Warsaw.

The IBA is currently in the World Series of its fourth season (with New York leading Russia 3 games to 2), and about ready to head into its off-season. So, there is plenty of time to create your player and evaluate your options before the free agent signing period and you won’t miss any games in doing so. And, there’ll be more time to improve your player and prepare him (or her) for next season. So now is the ample time to create your player. If you have anymore questions feel free to IM me at magictmac2k3 or IM Eric Mayo, commissioner of the IBA, at nycguy2662. Come join this already successful league and help it grow even more!

Past champions of the IBA:
2005. Texas Rounders
runner-up: BWT
2006. Texas Rounders
runner-up: RWT
2007. Russia White Tigers
runner-up: CR
2008. Russia White Tigers/New York (NYD leads RWT 3-2)

I agree. This is by far the best player sim out there, and it could even compete with some of the great non-player sims. We've got a huge community that makes everyone feel welcome, and one with the others immediatley when you arrive. This league is definatley one that you would want to join, especially you writers out there.
