The pre-order is for a game that won't be released until March or so.

My only advice is to look up the prefix "pre-" in the dictionary...

Because it's being planned for release approximately at the same time as Spring Training next year.

Like someone else mentioned, try the OOTP 6 demo (it's the current version of the game you just pre-ordered). It's a neat game, and pretty cheap too, and will whet your appetite for March!

It is so they can get your money upfront to pay the bills until they get the game out the door. The are actually borrowing your money for $7.00 interest. You give them the $27.00 now and you get the $34.95 program at a future date.......funny thing is that the software industry is the only industry that I know of that takes pre-orders and charges your credit card right away. The company (not software) I am working for takes pre-orders to determine sales but does not actually charge until the product is shipped -- I was told that this was the law by the VP of the company but she could mean that it is just company policy. I feel it is wrong to pre-charge because the terms of any contract is I give you something for something you HAVE, not something that may arrive. Now what happens if the product does not come out, you have no binding contract because the company can say that the product is DELAYED. There was never an iron-clad contract to state when the product is out. Now SI will not do this but this is reason that pre-charging is not a good idea.....pre-paying is not a good benefit for the purchaser.....

Now pre paying, how does this benefit you? This truly never benefits the consumer, other than giving them a "warm fuzzy" that they are in line to get something, when it comes out or a sense that they are supporting the product - even before it is truly a product. Of course, I wait until it comes out, read the reviews on the forum and then will decide if I want the product at that time or when the patch comes out...... For the company this pays for the time that is most costly and less profitable - development time. After the product is out it does not cost much to maintain and there is an income from the sales. Development time is $$$$$$ out of the coffers, Sales brings $$$$ in after the development, pre-charging helps to cover the timeframe between Development and Production(Sales).

Now the second part, why so long term? Would you really want the product to be rushed to reach a deadline only to find out that it does not work properly? I would rather not have the deadline as long as a status of the product were posted somewhere to see the progress. Or to have an estimated date posted but then changed if production problems arise.....

For those that pre-paid, I am not knocking you. I just stated my personal beliefs on the subject. I owned my own company for a few years and would never consider doing this - just in case the product did not meet the expectations of the clients. Of course this is different with software.

Hope that helps.....

everyone has their opinion, but I have bought every version since OOTP 2 and knew I was going to purchase the new version regardless. I am very glad SI and Markus are giving me a chance to order the new game at a reduced price. I may or may not agree with my card being immediately charged, but am more than happy to support Markus and the OOTP franchise.

So what is the official release date? I'm a bit leery about pre-ordering too far in advance.

There is no official date. The only assumption is that it will come out sometime during Spring Training.

Pre-paying for something that is going to be released in 5-6 months is just bogus. Plus you take our money right away??? What kind of crap is that. I love this game, but will not par-take is a deal such as this.

Also charging different rates around the world is BS as well. I am in the military stationed in Portgual and I am betting I can't but the game for the American rate correct? Hey give me a military discount why don't you!!

The currency rate is different for every country. For example, $34.95 US is worth $40.98 in Canada.
