BobBob's Team Financials Study
I've done some research on what the finances for OOTP should be. I looked at
1. Metropolitan Area Population and 2. Nielson TV Markets, which effect the local TV deals. These measure the number of TV households in each area. TV REVENUE - I tried to get as much information as I could on the extent of each team's TV market (for example, the Orioles reaches as far as Raleigh, NC - although I doubt they are terribly popular there.) I took my "best guesses" as to how much of each sub market might be claimed by each team. I added guesses for how much the Chicago teams, Braves and Yankees might grab nationally. FAN LOYALTY - To calculate fan interest (FI) I looked at attendance relative to population and the winning percentage for the past few years. MARKET SIZE - Is metropolitan area size, regardless of TV market. I divided split marets ont he basis of their recent attendance, winning percentage and my estimation of their base of support. MARKETING - Is a combo of Market Size, Fan Loyalty, and recent attendance. I am still working on fan interest - its the percentage of attendance for each team. However, this kills teams like the Red Sox, who play in such a small stadium, but still go to bank on attendance. Teams that play in high cost-of-living/ income areas where they can charge more per ticket, expect their rich fans to spend more in terms of hot dogs and box seats than smaller markets. My solution will be to recalculate what stadium sizes should be in each city based on market size, TV per household (as a measure of wealth) and fan loyalty. Anyway, I thought I'd post my conlclusions so far and see if I could get any feed back... PS- I also looked at likely expansion cities and the financials for that. Charlotte looks great due to its potential TV Market. |
