ootp6.5b didnt give a save to my closer after a win 4-1
I am playing my 2nd season and i had a situation where my Reds were winning 4-1 and with one out in the ninth, the dodgers pinch hit a RH batter, so i brought in my closer and he got the last two outs and the game didnt give him a credit for a save. So i wanted the game makers be aware of this as i have the beta 6.5b loaded.

SAVES FOR RELIEF PITCHERS 10.20 Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: (1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and (2) He is not the winning pitcher; and (3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game. Did the Dodgers have any runners on base? If not, by the way I read the rule, he did not qualify for the save. rule 3a. he needs to pitch one inning for the 3 run rule alone to qualify him. In your case he only pitched 2\3 of an inning. rule 3b. He needs the tying run to at least be on deck. So for that to be the case the Dodgers would have had to have a runner on ( runner on base, batter, and man on deck to be able to tie the game). If the bases were empty when your closer entered the game then no save situation existed so none should be scored. |

Sweed beat me to it, but I thought I'd point out that you can read the "official rules" at mlb.com at: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/of...s/foreword.jsp or by scrolling down to the bottom of mlb.com and clicking on "official info" then the box with the plus sign in it beside "official rules". What Sweed quoted you can find on the last page with the menu on the left.

I didnt know he had to pitch at least 1 inning, but if he had come in with a runner on base and only pitched 2/3 of the inning he would have got the save right?
thanks for your help |

Correct, a runner would have made it a save situation. I think a guy heres the 3 run rule so often while watching a game when a closer comes in to start the 9th inning that they think it applies in all situations. Common mistake and gets asked about here, I would say, at least two or three times a year.
