Madden Historical Baseball League (MHBL).
Greetings,
Didn't want to step on any toes, so I tried the oddest combination of letters I could think of. So, hope MHBL isn't taken. Why Madden? Inside story (joke). I have read some of the other writeups for leagues, and I am knocked down by the amount of time and energy that people have spent. All credit to those people. I admit that I am not going to spend that kind of effort on writing up this league. So, up to you if you want to bother reading about it. I do plan to do a few things fairly different, so let me discuss the structure. 1) The league will start in 1878. 2) It will use one of my normalized databases (which people didn't seem to care about -- kinda surprising). The career average with delayed debuts database. 3) It will use four man rotations from day one to the end of the league. This will require starting with four teams in 1878. Expansion will occur rapidly, and the 16 team structure that most leagues eventually use will be in place by 1885. 4) Drafting will be done entirely by me each year. Since we all know that the best player as often as not does not go to the worst team, I plan to randomly re-distribute the teams before doing the drafting. 5) I will also set the lineups. The computer is a ****** when it comes to setting proper lineups. "Billy Hamilton is a leadoff hitter!" 6) Injuries and trading will be off. The problem with me setting everything myself is that I can't have the computer help me. The instant the computer is back on, it screws up all of my lineups. So, that makes it impossible to do injuries and/or trading. Any ideas on this one? Maybe I will rethink this one. It would save work not having to do lineups, but it is frustrating watching the computer make ass backwards lineups. Michael T. Gianvecchio P.S. If the expansion screws everything up, I may have to start again in 1885 with 16 teams. I am not going to break my back for a handful of years. I simply wanted to give some of the early stars a chance to have full (or close ot it) careers. Last edited by MTGian; 11-19-2002 at 07:48 PM. |

Nice. Looking forward to hearing about some of the very early stars, since I didn't start my solo league until 1903.

Nukester,
Thanks. Hope it stays interesting. A couple other things. I plan on using 162 game seasons. This is pretty arbitrary, and I did consider 154. However, mide as well use what we are comfortable with. Why not go with the actual length in the seasons played? This isn't meant to be a copy of what happened in real life. Far from it. Franchises will be different. Structure will be different. I wanted something that made stars a little more comparable from era to era. Sticking with the same length seasons accomlishes that. Michael T. Gianvecchio |

Got a suggestion for you concerning those databases.
They may gain more interest if you make a post about them in the main OOTP forum... more people wander through there I would think. I certainly would use them, but right now I'm running a league of a different sort, and don't want to try anything else until it's complete. Good luck with your new league. I will be watching for your notes. |
