ISO Asst GM for transition to takeover - Western Hemisphere Baseball League

Greetings all,

I'm looking for someone to take over my team in the WHBL, as I'm planning on leaving the league at the end of the season, which is currently at the All-Star break in mid-July. What I have in mind is to take on an assistant GM for the rest of the season, and then have that assistant take over as the full-time owner at the end of the postseason, giving him some time to get acquainted to the league and how everything works.

The links to the league website and the team's page are on my sig. You'd be taking over a top-notch organization, coming off two straight division titles (consecutive 107-55 seasons) and headed for a third. There are major prospects in the farm system (rated 5th-6th in the league by the AI's points system) and multiple first-round picks in next years draft, so you'd be well set-up for the future, as well. Finances are strong with high Fan Interest (currently 98/100) giving the team approx. $10M profit margin at EOY, not including expected playoff revenue. Top players include a former MVP and Triple Crown winner, several past and present All-Stars in the everyday lineup (including a budding 24 y/o star threatening to break the .400 plateau at mid-season), a former Rookie of the Year, and a former Outstanding Reliever award winner in the bullpen. In short, you would be gearing up for the postseason as a co-GM this season, and should expect to have an great hand to work with in getting there for years to come.

The WHBL is on 6.5 (6.12 still welcome) has fictional players and uses talent-only in its ratings display (1-10, 2-8 other ratings). Fairly large league at 32 teams (16 in both North America/South America). $100M salary cap, $35M cash max. It has probably the deepest extra-game stats utility in the OotP online universe (that I'm familiar with, anyway), so a stathead would be in hog heaven with regular updates of EqA, VORP, park factors, dERA, batter BABIP, and other stuff I haven't figured out how to use yet. In addition, there are fun extras such as a gallery of player images, an in-progress league history website, and an active message board with team reports, trash talk, you name it. The commish is top-notch and very open to owner input on changes to the league regarding rules, website content, and anything else you'd like to contribute. We're on a M-W-Sat. 7-8-7-8 sim schedule, with exports due 10 pm CST and sims usually run the next morning. Duties would be light for the remainder of the season (exports 1-2x/week, casual exchange of opinions via PM), but you'd have full control at the end of the season after getting acclimated. We're in our fifth season of existence (current 2004, est. 2000), so there's a nice balance of early history and future growth for the league. The Ospreys (our squad) are still seeking their first title ... you could be the one to get them to the winner's circle.

If you're interested in signing on, check out the league website and look the team over, and then shoot me a PM. In your message, please tell me a little about your experience (if any ... beginners are welcome) in online leagues, GMing style, and any insights into the present and future prospects of the Jacksonville Ospreys and anything else about yourself you think might be of interest. I can also answer any questions about the team/league you might have here. The greater depth of investigation into the league you show in your application, the greater your chances are of getting the post. So, don't lose out on your chance to get your foot in the door of a first-rate team in an outstanding league!

Looking forward to hearing soon from some of the GMing talent out there ...

I am ecstatic! What a season! I just got my LCS Championship hat in the mail today. And ordered my World Series champ hat last night. I hope I have a chance for more! Whew....

I feel bad for our commisioner Eric, because he's a big 'Stros fan. Too bad they couldn't put up much of a fight. It's funny. Their season ended the way it began. Absolutely no offense.

But, the reason for the sad face was that you are leaving the WHBL. Any reason? You've made a lot of contributions to the league, and you'll definately be missed. Hopefully you can bring home a title before you leave.

Thanks, Jesse ... between you and Jason, I've had my share of warm fuzzies as I get set to go. Basically, real life is calling ... I feel like I need to give more quality time to work and school. I've loved the league, though, and I'm sad to be cutting the cord. But, hopefully I can find a good guy to take over the reigns. I'd be cool with an Americas Cup appearance at this point, but taking it all home would be a nice way to go out ...

Ah man. It's too bad you're leaving d00d.

But you still aren't getting Marpons.

Heh.

Want Mason, Viveiros, and the fixtures in the clubhouse? You can even bring Marpons along with you ...

Nobody wants a team loaded to the gills, if I may be so bold to say so ... ?

Yeah, someone should take Qwerty's team.

His loss will be a huge one to the league, and we need someone to step in and be ready to live up to his reputation.

I know you know how I feel, bro. But I'll say it again that we'll still miss ya.

You know its because they see Washington lurking in the Shadows ready to pounce as early as next season.

Thanks for helping me pimp out my team, guys ...

Since I've gotten scarce interest so far, I just want to let everyone who may have been turned off by my request for an "application" not to worry. Just a short note about your interest in the team and league with the relevant background details will do, and we can start the dialogue about the specifics of the league from there. I'm primarily looking for someone with some general baseball smarts and who can display the ability to manage a team according to a big-picture plan. Minimally, I'd be cool with an old-school but savvy GM who won't just put the team on auto-depth chart/lineups/pitching staff and let his team lag in the standings due to neglect. The ability to export at least once a week is desired. Replicating my vision for the team isn't a requirement, since you'll be taking over at the end of the season with me out of the picture, but I *would* like to hand the reins over to someone who can formulate a strategy and execute it. I'll give you all the help you need in learning how the league operates and inside info on things like gauging the league's talent level, run environment, opposing GM tendencies, and so on. You'll have some of the league's best players at your disposal and the challenge of competing in a talent-only league to keep you on your toes. Just shoot me a PM if that sounds to your liking.

BTW, Eric ... what's the picture in your avatar? You have a knack for finding cool images ... (this from someone who hasn't bothered to put up one of his own on here) ...

That is a picture of Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico at sunset about two weeks ago. Taken from the third floor hotel balcony almost directly across from the Catedral de Zacatecas (google image for the cathedral - it's absolutely amazing churrigueresque architecture - you can look at it for days and still pick out more detail).

Good stuff. And thanks for asking.

So you made another run south of the border while we were at the AS break? I've always wanted to visit Mexico, but haven't set foot inside the borders except for a sleepy car ride through Tijuana when I was 5 years old.

Uh huh.

You should treat yourself sometime. There are a half dozen places that I'd highly recommend, depending on what kind of things you like to do on vacation.

Bump for the beginning of the week ...

Only 6 more sims (2 weeks real-time) until the playoffs and sole ownership of the Ospreys thereafter ... catch the fever!

Thanks, Rob.

Coming from the guy who gave me my first and last deals in the league, and lots of good times in between, it means a lot to know that I'll be missed. I'll probably pop my head in every now and then, even if I can't get a hand-picked successor to take over.

With that, I'd just like to remind everyone that the team is still available ...
