Numb fingers isnt all too shocking to end a career. My friend got the tips of his middle and ring finger smashed(bone crushed) lifting weights, someone dropped a weight on them, and he had to have reconstructive surgery on them, but he has no feeling in them. He plays baseball for the school team, and since it was only the tips, he can still play. But I could see how the WHOLE finger would be very hard to play with.

How about the pitcher for the Yankees that only had one hand. I'm sure he threw a no-no. I think his name was Abbot, but I'm not a 100% on that.

I remember seeing him because it was a trip to watch him pitch. He held the glove under his handless arm, delivered the pitch, and then got the glove on his throwing hand before the ball reached the plate. AIR he was on the opposing team when Ripkin broke the iron man record. After the game was official Cal (what a class act!) walked around the park waving to and shaking hands with all the fans. When he got to the opponent's dugout he started shanking their hands. There was an awkward moment when he got to Abbot, then they shared a grin and Cal moved on.

I always wondered how Jim Abbot would bat. He was not the greatest of pitchers but I was very impressed with him when he was with the White Sox.

there was a college player that lost his arm, and could still swing for the fences, wasnt there a big story on espn, and i knew a kid that played that only had his right arm and they made him a special glove that he could throw with, it was a really small thing

Sure, sure...but none of those measure up to a stiff shoulder! Um, forget that part.
Personally, I think Jim Abbott should be in the HOF for what he accomplished given his handicap.

murrayyyyy, dude...Didja like that wind we got yesterday? Have you found new leauges since the abortive start of GBL?
Abbott was a decent hitter in college, if I remember. Like many pitchers, years in the AL robbed him of whatever hitting ability he once had.

Why must I remember such disappointing losses?

Damn. You know you're starting to get old when people barely remember a guy who was a superstar when you were in high school. =)
18-11 with a 2.89 ERA in 1991...with one arm. How can anyone ever top that? To be a little on topic, he was only 23 and debuted with the Angels at 21. I think OOTP4 would be more realistic if the development curves allowed the occasional 21 year old one armed superstar pitcher. Markus? Jason
