Baseball-Illustrated Hits Stands

http://baseball-illustrated.com

On January 3rd, 2005, the sports world took a turn for the unexpected.

"It is with my great pleasure to announce to you fine folks, today, that the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino has bought out Major League Baseball. From here on out, we have full ownership to the league and all of its teams."
-MGM Spokesman Carl Turner

And just like that, the game that so many people grew up with had officially changed. MGM's plan was simple: Create a league where the playing competition was so even and competitive, that even Nostradamus couldn't even correctly pick winners in 50% of baseball games. A league run by gambling, where even the owners are gambling would surely bring truckloads of money into the casino. I mean, how could gambler's possibly predict the outcome of games when every team is putting forth their best squad possible?

The first order of business was to hire twenty-four money savvy General Managers, who would be willing to bet their own bankroll in an effort to make money. That's where you come in.

Baseball-Illustrated is a 24 team modern day MLB league, where the league will start off with a dispersal draft. You get to pick your first 15 players on your squad, and five prospects of your choice. Build the team the way you want. With a salary cap and a salary basement, you are forced to be competitive. Each team starts out in the same market with the same fan interest and same television deals. It's up ot you as an owner to get things going.

There's always a twist to make these things interesting, and that's where the MGM Grand Casino decided to get fancy. There is no cash maximum in this league. You can officially hord as much money as your greedy palms can hold.

A league run by a casino has to have gambling, right? Each owner is given one million dollars that is put into their fictional bankroll, giving them complete access to MGM's Baseball Gambling Consortium. This is where things get interesting, as you use the one million dollars you have each season to increase your bankroll through gambling. Remember, this is a spare million, so it won't damage your team in any bad way if you lose it all. Use the one million dollars to try and form the biggest bankroll possible, by playing these fun games:

Vegas Over/Under
Each week a statistical prediction will be made. Bet on whether you think this prediction will be met (over), or failed (under).

Baseball Bingo
Select five players in a given week who you think will hit a homerun. If all five connect, you win. If one fails, you lose.

Vegas Straight Odds
Prior to each season Vegas will come out with their "official" odds on who will win the championship, who will win awards, and all of that good junk. There is also odds on who will win series throughout the season to keep your addiction going strong.

Strike 'Em Out Slots
Select three players who you think will strike out on a given day, and win big money.

Batting Roulette
Select a player who you think will get a hit in his first at-bat.

All of these games will be open throughout the year, giving you the chance to build your bankroll. Remember you get a fresh $1 million dollars every season, so don't be afraid to tap the bank!

Along with the gambling aspect of the league, the point of all these games are to keep owners up to date on what is going on with players in the league. That brings us to the "Baseball-Illustrated" part of the league. Every season a complete guide to the league will be distribuited to the league. We call this the magazine. It will be pages and pages of interesting info, kind of like a sports media guide.

We will simulate three times a week (around 10 days per sim, looking to complete a month every week). If you want the chance to build your franchise from the ground up, and simply have fun while playing OOTP, I hope you give us a try. All rookies will come from the "Junior League", which is a league that has an 80 game season with all of the upcoming Amateur Draft prospects.

If interested in this league, please email me at mooreorlessjay@yahoo.com with the basic info, and the teams you'd be interested in having. This is not a first come first serve league. I am trying to find owners who will keep this league going year after year. The teams available will be updated daily in my next post. Read the rules page (http://baseball-illustrated.com/constitution.htm) and let me know if you have any questions. Have a great one!

Just a bump. I'm collecting a few applications at a time before I accept owners. I will accept the next handful tonight.

Being Vegas, where's the eye candy? You can't go anywhere in Vegas without seeing scantily clad women.
